- Seppelt Great Western - Join a Seppelt tour guide for a fascinating glimpse into Australia’s pioneering wine history as you explore the heritage-listed underground cellars, known as “The Drives.” These hand-dug cellars, excavated by out-of-work gold miners beginning in 1868, took over 60 years to complete and stretch for 3 kilometers, capable of holding over 3 million bottles of wine. The Drives are the largest underground cellars in the Southern Hemisphere and a must-visit in the Grampians Region.
After emerging from the underground, enjoy a journey through Seppelt’s sparkling wines, including the iconic Seppelt Sparkling Shiraz, first produced in the early 1890s.
Tours depart from the Seppelt Wines Cellar Door daily at 11 am, 1 pm, and 3 pm. A visit to the Grampians is not complete without experiencing Seppelt Great Western’s historic cellars.

Brilliant tour with fantastic guides - Absolutely a great experience to visit the history of Seppelt as well as the underground tunnels. Absolutely fascinating tour which was made more interesting by our excellent tour guide Ricky.
We have done this same tour 2 years ago with Tamika and would say they both are equally brilliant in their own knowledge style and humour they bring to this experience.
The 4 of us will definitely be recommending this tour not to be missed to all of our family and friends especially with these two wonderful people who have been our guides. 🙏🙏

Visit and tour - We had a fantastic visit to Seppelt. Ricky led us on a very informative tour of the site and wine tunnels. His warm and friendly personality, along with his humour, made us feel very comfortable straight away. He had fantastic knowledge. Would 100% recommend anyone wanting to take a tour to do this.

As good as the French Champagne Tunnels - The Chinese gold miners dug 3 kilometres of tunnels underneath the Seppelt winery which were used for the storage of sparkling wines over a period of 100 years. They are the longest underground wine tunnels in the Southern Hemisphere and comparable to the tunnels in Champagne in France. History Tours are undertaken twice a day. The experience is well worth it.

AMAZING EXPERIENCE! - Went to Seppelt Great Western with my wife for our anniversary and honestly, it was the best decision. The underground cellar tour with Ricky was awesome! He made it super fun and easy to follow, with cool stories and jokes along the way.
Felt like we were hanging out with a mate who knows everything about wine and history. Such a great way to spend our special day. Highly recommend it if you’re ever around!

Definitely worth the visit! - Ricky was such a fun and friendly guide! He explained everything in a super simple and interesting way, and made the whole experience really enjoyable. You can tell he loves what he does. We learned a lot, had a few laughs, and the underground cellar tour was just amazing.
If you’re visiting Seppelt, definitely try to go on a tour with Ricky – he made it extra special!

The best winery experience going through its history. - My visit to Seppelt was a highlight of our trip to Great Western. The underground tour was both fascinating and informative, offering a unique look into the winery’s rich history and winemaking techniques. The wine tasting at the end was fantastic especially the sparkling wine, which was my personal favorite. A big thank you to Ricky, who was a wonderful guide knowledgeable, friendly, and great at explaining each step of the process. This experience is a must if you're visiting the area!

Great guide. Incredible history. - I would thoroughly recommend the First underground cellar tour. Our guide, Ricky was very knowledgeable and quick witted. The history is quite incredible and it is great that local community are continuing to keep these wonderful site going. Well worth the trip.

Historic and memorable - Absolutely amazing experience. Ricky gave us the full experience. Terrific knowledge of the history of Seppelt wines while also explaining not only the manufacturing of the wine but also the importance to the local community. Incredible and cannot recommend it more highly.
