8:00 am – Begin the day with an invigorating hike through the cloud forest of Mombacho Volcano. This dormant volcano features four craters, all enveloped by lush cloud forest. This unique forest type is also found at Apoyo Lagoon, the only other location in the Pacific. While exploring one of Mombacho’s craters, you’ll encounter a diverse array of trees and plants thriving in the humid environment, and you may spot howler and white-faced monkeys, along with snakes, deer, reptiles, birds, and insects.
12:30 pm – The next destination is Apoyo Lagoon, a nature reserve nestled between the Masaya and Granada departments. Apoyo Lagoon is the deepest geological point in Central America, with its last volcanic eruption occurring 20,000 years ago. The sparkling, deep-blue Crater Lagoon, with its slightly saline water, invites you to swim, dive, sail, or paddle. It is one of the cleanest lakes in the region, offering a safe swimming experience with no hidden dangers beneath the surface. The water temperature, ranging from 25 to 28 degrees, is perfect for a refreshing swim at any time, especially on cooler days.
4:30 pm – After a relaxing afternoon, prepare to visit Masaya Volcano National Park. The journey will take you to a lookout point where you can peer into the crater mouth and witness the glowing magma activity from the recently formed Santiago crater, concluding your adventure. You will return to the city of Granada or Managua around 7:30 pm.
