Great walking tour - Lorena was knowledgeable and interesting. Recommend going as soon as you arrive so you understand important sites. But book Alhambra separate, way in advance and be on time and prepared for arduous climb.

Alberto, a great guide! - Today we toured with Alberto, a professional historian and excellent guide. A Grenadine that tells the story of Granada with passion and that captured our attention from the first minute. Very well documented, even with photographs ancient, entertaining, fun, highly recommended definitely!

Walking tour of Central Granada & Albaicín - Start from Plaza de Santa Ana we are in the medieval Nasrid town of Albaicín in Granada, pass the ornate Court of Justice to walk up narrow Calle Carcel Alta in to Plaza de San Gregorio. Looking down from here on to Calle Calderería Vieja you would be forgiven being in Casablanca, Morocco. The narrow street lined with all types of shops purveying Moorish clothes, teas, herbs, foods and sweetmeat shops. Reaching Calle Gran Vía de Colón, the main street in Granada cross over and find Calle Oficios which houses council offices and the entrance to the Royal Mausoleum. Carlos V decreed that the Royal Mausoleum to be built adjacent to the Cathedral represent Royal Vault, an allusion to the Holy Sepulchre. Coming out of the mausoleum head down a narrow alley, Ermita, which was full of multi-coloured little shops until you arrive at an archway that lead to a small square, Placeta de la Seda (Silk Square). The archway and the square was similarly full of small shops with colourful clothes, items and had blue tiled panels This tiny square is located at the heart of the Albaicín, inside the streets of the old souk next to the main mosque (now Cathedral & Sagrario) and below the madrassa (Koranic School) it’s easy to see how the city would have been in the 14th century. Inside this small square typical Fajaluaza ceramics, blue and green pottery from Granada adorns the walls. Walk out of the Silk Square head for the Cathedral with its front facing Plaza de las Pasiegas. Walk in to the cathedral to view a beautifully decorated interior. Stop for lunch at restaurant Harmanos Urquiza on Calle Navas for local dishes. One of the favourite to try is Huevo frito sobre habas y jamón serreno. Although on a tourist street near the City Hall but was patronised mostly by locals. Walk back to Plaza de Bib-Rambla where many restaurants and coffee houses are. Virgen de las Angustias day is the patron saint of the city. For the thirty days that the month lasts, the local government, different organisations, professional bodies, etc. come to the Basilica to pay public tribute to Her. Thousands of people come to the Basilica de las Angustias to place a bunch of flowers on its façade as a floral tribute to the Virgen de las Angustias (Our Lady of Sorrows). On 3rd of Sunday of the month, a procession is held. Torta de la Virgen, a traditional pastry baked in wooden ovens and filled with sweet pumpkin is made especially for this festivity and it is available only during this week. The roads are closed in the vicinity for the procession and the festivities.

The missing piece for the Catholic Monarchs. - The visit with Nacho went very well. We saw the most emblematic places in the city center, and a bit of the Albaicín, and he told us many historical details to understand the importance of the city emphasizing its Arab past. Highly recommended.
