Comares Palace: Built by Yusuf I, this palace features a powerful 46-meter tower reflected in a large pond surrounded by a marble floor. Inside is the Hall of the Ambassadors, where Nasrid power and the Sultan’s throne were centralized. The ceiling showcases a spectacular representation of the seven heavens and the paradise of Islam.
-
Palace of the Lions: Built by Mohamed V, this palace includes four spaces: the Mocárabes Room, the Abencerrajes Room, the Kings Room, and the Two Sisters Room. At its center is the famous Fountain of the Lions, an icon of the Alhambra.
-
El Partal: Surrounded by gardens and a large pool.
-
Alcazaba - The first part of the Alhambra built by its founder Mohamed I “Al-hamar” in the first half of the 13th century. An impregnable fortress with access to three of its towers:
-
Torre del Cubo: Offers spectacular views of the Albaicín and Sacromonte, overlooking the Darro Valley.
-Torre de las Armas: Provides an unbeatable view of the Cathedral, the center of Granada, and La Vega.
-
Torre de la Vela: The most famous tower, offering 360º views of the entire city, including a sublime panoramic view of the Sierra Nevada. In the center of the fortress is the military neighborhood, where around 13 families once lived. Today, the foundations of the houses and some ruins of what were once royal baths are preserved.
-
Generalife - The Generalife boasts the best-preserved example of a Nasrid garden in Europe. Its Arabic name means “Garden of the Architect.” It consists of two main elements:
-
The Generalife Palace: Used as a vacation residence for the Sultan, where he retired to spend Ramadan. Inside are the private rooms of the Patio de la Alberca, Patio de la Sultana, Salón Regio, and Mirador de Ismail.
-
The Generalife Gardens: Home to a wide variety of flowers, crops, and plants, all watered by the waters of the Acequia Real.
-
Palace of Carlos V - Commissioned by Emperor Carlos V to serve as a prelude to the Nasrid Palaces. Its imposing Renaissance style stands out in the middle of the Nasrid palatine city. Designed by Pedro de Machuca, who trained in Italy with masters like Michelangelo and Raphael. After his death, his son Luis de Machuca continued the work. The palace is unique for being circular on the inside and square on the outside. It features a total of 64 columns, and its construction required opening a door (the Puerta de los Carros) in the Arab wall to bring in the columns and materials.
