The park’s original elephant section was established in 1931, at a time when only eleven elephants were left in the region. Today, this well-balanced ecosystem boasts one of the highest elephant densities globally, with over 600 elephants, along with lions, buffalo, the endangered black rhino, spotted hyenas, leopards, various antelope and zebra species, and the distinctive Addo flightless dung beetle, which is found almost exclusively in Addo.
