• Gjirokaster - Departing from Tirana at 8:00, the journey will take us to Gjirokastra, located 230 km from Tirana. This town is renowned as “a rare example of a well-preserved Ottoman town, built by farmers of the large estate.” Traveling through the deep South of Albania, the route is predominantly lined with cultivated fields in one of the most fertile agricultural regions of the country. Additionally, the drive will pass by the Vjosa River, one of the few remaining wild rivers in Albania and the Balkans.
• Gjirokastra Bazaar - Upon entering the city, it becomes evident that Gjirokastra is unique. The historical section begins at one of the city’s main squares, named after one of the most notable Albanian patriots of the 19th century, Cerciz Topulli. This is where most of the cobblestone streets conclude their energetic descent from the castle heights.

Dating back to the 17th century during the Ottoman period, the bazaar has been the city’s vibrant heart, spreading life in all directions. It was the city’s most significant economic district, where news and gossip quickly circulated among the people. Many would buy, sell, or simply relax while enjoying coffee. In an era when many marriages were arranged, it served as the ideal central meeting place for families before the ceremony.

• Gjirokaster Castle - Strolling through the Bazaar leads to the Gjirokastra Fortress. Perched atop a hill in a naturally well-defended position, this was the city’s earliest settlement. Closely associated with the captivating Legend of Argjiro, the young princess who sacrificed herself, this castle is often referred to as the Crown of the City. Extensively restored for the last time in the 19th century, it has frequently served as a fortress and prison under various regimes and political factions. Beyond its historical significance, it offers a magnificent view of the stone city, leisurely sprawled on the city’s steep slopes.
• Rruga Palorto - Furthermore, the tour of Gjirokastra continues into one of the city’s most renowned areas. Located in close proximity are the family homes of Enver Hoxha (former Communist Leader) and his neighbor, Ismail Kadare (the most celebrated modern Albanian writer). Both stand as prominent figures in 20th-century politics and literature. Additionally, before departing this area via “The Path of Mad People” and its intriguing story, there will be an opportunity to visit a particularly interesting house.
• The Blue Eye - The final stop will be at one of Albania’s most stunning natural wonders. Situated in a village near Finiq, the Blue Eye or Syri i Kaltër is a water spring that perfectly encapsulates Albania’s natural beauty – breathtaking. The vibrant blue water is so clear that the bottom is visible, and the sunlight creates a magical atmosphere, ideal for taking beautiful photos or enjoying a quick swim. The spring is an easy hike from the parking area, and there is a nearby café for refreshments.
