- Pyramids of Giza - The tour guide will pick up guests from their hotel to enjoy a day exploring the pyramids. Among Egypt’s top tourist attractions, the Pyramids of Giza are a must-see. These are the three main pyramids, constructed during the 4th Dynasty (around 2550 B.C). In Ancient Egypt, pyramids served as tombs for royalty, a privilege reserved for the Old and Middle Kingdoms.
Today, Egypt boasts over 93 pyramids, with the most renowned located at Giza.
Let’s embark on a tour around the pyramid site to appreciate the area’s grandeur:
- Great Pyramid of Cheops (Khufu) - The renowned Great Pyramid of Khufu stands as the largest, tallest, and most well-preserved pyramid in Egypt. It was recognized as one of the “Seven Wonders of the Ancient World” and remains the only one still in existence. For 4,300 years, it held the title of the tallest structure on earth until the Eiffel Tower was erected in 1889.
Khufu’s Pyramid, made entirely of limestone, is an architectural marvel. It comprises approximately 1,300,000 blocks, each weighing between 2.5 to 15 tons. Its square base spans 13 acres, with sides measuring about 230m (755ft). The pyramid’s four sides align precisely with the cardinal points and have a 52-degree angle.
-
Khafre’s Pyramid - Known as the 2nd Pyramid, Khafre’s Pyramid is easily identified by the remnants of its original casing stones near the top. Positioned on a higher plateau, it appears taller than the Great Pyramid, though it is actually 136m (446 ft) tall, with sides of 214.5m (704ft), covering an area of 11 acres and having a 53-degree angle. Over time, it has lost some height, originally standing at 143.5m (471ft).

Great Sphinx - The Great Sphinx, known to the ancients as “Shesep Ankh” or “the living image,” is one of history’s most recognizable monuments. The Sphinx is synonymous with Egypt and the Giza Plateau. Carved from soft sandstone, it might have eroded away if not for being buried in sand for extended periods. The body measures 60m (200ft) in length and 20m (65ft) in height. Its face is 4m (13ft) wide, with eyes 2m (6ft) high. Facing the rising sun, it was so revered by the ancients that they constructed a temple in front of it. After the tour, guests will return to their hotel.
