- Great Pyramid of Cheops (Khufu) - Situated in Giza, Egypt, the Great Pyramid of Cheops (Khufu) is the largest of the three Giza pyramids and one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Constructed around 2600 BC as the tomb for Pharaoh Khufu of the Fourth Dynasty, this pyramid stands as a symbol of ancient Egyptian civilization and showcases the architectural and engineering prowess of the era.
The Great Pyramid of Cheops reaches a height of about 146 meters (481 feet) and held the title of the tallest man-made structure for millennia until the steeple of Old St. Paul’s Cathedral in London was built in 1221 CE. It comprises approximately 2.3 million limestone blocks, each weighing between 2.5 to 15 tons. The precision in quarrying, transporting, and assembling these massive stones is a testament to ancient engineering skills.
- Pyramid of Menkaure - Also known as Mykerinos, the Pyramid of Menkaure is one of the three pyramids at the Giza site near Cairo, Egypt. Built during the Fourth Dynasty of the Old Kingdom around 2515 BC, it served as the tomb for Pharaoh Menkaure.
Standing at about 65 meters (213 feet) tall, it is the smallest of the Giza pyramids. It is believed to have been designed by the architect Hemon, who also contributed to the Pyramid of Khufu.
Constructed from limestone, the pyramid was originally covered with smooth, polished Tura limestone, much of which has been removed, exposing the rougher inner layer. The pyramid includes three smaller pyramids for queen consorts and an adjacent mortuary temple.
- Khafre’s Pyramid - Known as the Pyramid of Khafre or the Pyramid of Chefren, Khafre’s Pyramid is a prominent structure on the Giza Plateau in Egypt. It is the second largest pyramid and was likely built as a burial tomb for Pharaoh Khafre, the fourth ruler of the Fourth Dynasty of Ancient Egypt.
The Pyramid of Khafre stands approximately 136 meters (446 feet) tall and was constructed with limestone blocks. Although slightly smaller than the Great Pyramid of Khufu (Cheops), its position on higher ground makes it appear taller.
A notable feature of Khafre’s Pyramid is the remaining casing stones at its apex, which give it a distinctive look. Some of the original casing stones, made of highly polished white limestone, are still visible near the top.
- Great Sphinx - Located on the east side of the complex, the Great Sphinx is believed by Egyptologists to bear the likeness of Khafre. Alongside these major monuments are several smaller structures, known as “queens” pyramids, causeways, and valley pyramids.
After the tour concludes, you will be transported back to your hotel.
- Giza Plateau - The Giza Plateau is a limestone plateau in Giza, Egypt, home to the Fourth Dynasty Giza pyramid complex, which includes the pyramids of Khufu, Khafre, and Menkaure, the Great Sphinx, several cemeteries, a workers’ village, and an industrial complex. It is the northernmost part of the 16,000 ha Pyramid Fields on the Western Desert edge of the Nile Valley, part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Memphis and its Necropolis.
The plateau is elevated approximately 60 meters above sea level.
