- Pyramids of Giza - The tour guide will pick guests up from their hotel to enjoy a day exploring the pyramids. Among Egypt’s top tourist attractions, the Pyramids of Giza are a must-see. These are the three main pyramids of Egypt, constructed during the 4th Dynasty (around 2550 B.C). The pyramids served as tombs for kings and queens, a prestigious honor during the Old and Middle Kingdoms.
Today, Egypt boasts over 93 pyramids, with the most renowned located at Giza.
Let’s embark on a tour around the pyramid site to appreciate the area’s grandeur:
- Great Pyramid of Cheops (Khufu) - The Great Pyramid of Khufu is the largest, tallest, and most well-preserved pyramid in Egypt. It was one of the “Seven Wonders of the Ancient World” and remains the only one still standing. For 4,300 years, it was the tallest structure on earth until the Eiffel Tower was built in 1889.
Khufu’s Pyramid, made entirely of limestone, is an architectural marvel. It comprises approximately 1,300,000 blocks weighing between 2.5 to 15 tons. Its square base spans 13 acres, with sides measuring about 230m (755ft). The four sides align precisely with the cardinal points and have a 52-degree angle.
-
Pyramid of Khafre - The Pyramid of Khafre, or the 2nd Pyramid, is easily identified by the original casing stones near its summit. Positioned on a higher plateau, it appears taller than the Great Pyramid, though it is an optical illusion. It stands at 136m (446 ft) with sides of 214.5m (704ft), covering 11 acres with a 53-degree angle. Originally 143.5m (471ft) tall, it has lost some height over time.
-
Pyramid of Menkaure - Menkaure, Khafre’s son, constructed the smallest of the three main pyramids on the Giza Plateau. Initially 65.5m (215ft) tall, it now stands at 62m (203ft), with sides of 105m (344ft) and a 51.3-degree angle. It is believed that the pyramid was expanded during construction, becoming larger than initially planned. The original structure had a simple descending corridor and burial chamber, but with enlargement, a new corridor with three portcullises and a small paneled chamber was added. Later, another burial chamber and storeroom were included at a lower level. Like its neighbors, it has a north-facing entrance.
-
Panoramic view of the Pyramids - Next, enjoy a panoramic view of the six pyramids and the city of Giza, where guests can spend 10 minutes taking photos and admiring the scenery.
-
Giza - Following this, guests will enjoy a one-hour quad bike ride, followed by a shopping tour in Giza to learn about papyrus making, essence perfume, lotus flowers, and cotton stores.
-
Great Sphinx - The Great Sphinx, known to the ancients as “Shesep Ankh” or “the living image,” is one of history’s most iconic structures. The Sphinx is synonymous with Egypt and the Giza Plateau. Carved from soft sandstone, it might have vanished long ago if not for being buried in sand for extended periods. The body measures 60m (200ft) long and 20m (65ft) tall, with a face 4m (13ft) wide and eyes 2m (6ft) high. Facing the rising sun, it was so revered by the ancients that they built a temple in front of it.
-
Nile River - Finally, guests will enjoy a dinner cruise on the Nile with a belly dancer, open buffet, tanoura show, and a sail on the Nile, before returning safely to the hotel.
