Our journey unfolds in Wadi El Ryan, declared a Protected Zone in 1989. Our first stop is the Wadi Hitan Protected Area (also known as Valley of the Whales), which lies about 90 km from Fayoum. The Valley of the Whales, sited within the protective boundaries of Wadi El Rayan, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, awarded for its 40 million-year-old whale fossils. We’ll then proceed towards Wadi El Rayan Waterfalls, taking a detour to explore Mudawara Mountain, followed by a dip into the Wadi Al Ryan Waterfalls. Situated in the western desert is Wadi El Rayan, a natural basin featuring two lakes linked by Egypt’s sole waterfalls, formed in 1970 by the overflow of drainage water from Fayoum’s farms. We’ll then wander into Medinet Madi (The Ancient Uncovered City), which reaches back to the third Pharaoh dynasty, initiated by Amenemhet III and finalized by Amenemhet IV.
