Additional Information

The Jewish sector in Girona, regarded as one of the best conserved in Europe, nestles in the core of the city. Brimming with historical remnants from the Roman and Medieval periods, this community, often referred to as the ‘Call’, once housed around 1,000 people during the Middle Ages, making it a vital part of Spain’s Jewish heritage. As you wander through the charming, narrow alleys of this Jewish Quarter, birthplace of Medieval Kabbalistic philosopher Nahmanides, you’ll discover locations of the city’s 3 synagogues and insights into the rituals and norms of the Jewish populace. A visit to the Museum of Jewish History offers further understanding of their lifestyle. Your tour guide will navigate you through the maze-like passageways, narrating the history of the Jewish Expulsion in 1492, an event marking the end of a 600-year coexistence. Upon completing this tour, you’ll be enlightened on the impact and legacy of Girona’s Jewish community.

Girona - Jewish history tour - We had an exceptional experience on this tour, and I cannot recommend it highly enough. Mike, our guide, possesses an impressive depth of knowledge about the Jewish history of Girona. His passion and expertise truly brought the rich history of the area to life. My son and I were captivated by the stories and insights he shared, which made the history accessible and engaging for both of us. Mike’s ability to weave historical facts with compelling narratives made the tour not only educational but also genuinely enjoyable. We walked away with a much deeper understanding and appreciation of Girona’s Jewish heritage, and the experience was a highlight of our visit. If you’re looking to delve into the Jewish history of this beautiful city, Mike is the perfect guide to take you on that journey.

A Journey Through Time - Pere, our guide, took us on a magical journey through the twisting alleyways and cobbled streets of Girona’s Jewish Quarter - giving us a unique and fascinating insight into the community’s history and culture. Pere’s amazing enthusiasm and knowledge managed to ‘transport’ us back to the 14th, 15th centuries and beyond. Would highly recommend this tour - you’ll come away far more enlightened about this important era of Catalonia’s history.

Interesting Jewish history tour - I had a private tour with Ona who was very knowledgeable about Girona and its Jewish history. It very interesting. After the tour she gave some great recommendations for restaurants and shops I also felt acquainted with the old city to go back later and visit the cathedral and other sites.

Amazing tours in Girona and to Cadaques Port LLigat and Figueres. - I highly recommend this company and Miguel our tour guide. Miguel took us on a tour of Girona and it was just us. He was wonderful! He explained all kinds of landmarks was very knowledgeable about the history of the Jewish people and culture in Girona and in Spain. He was so well educated and had text book memory! The Jewish Museum was the high point where Miguel explained to us all about the well known philosophers Maimonadies and Nachmanadies and about how they and the Jewish people lived in that time before and after the 1492. We were so lucky to have him all to ourselves and he answered all our questions. We also went on a wonderful tour just us, Miguel and Alex to Cadaques and Port Lligat to see the home of Salvador Dali and also to Figueres to see the Dali Museum. Alex was a wonderful driver and Miguel was again so thoroughly knowledgeable about Dali and his life, art, and thought process. They slowed down so we could take photos and the whole way Miguel told us about the area and about Dali. They left us at a restaurant to have a delightful lunch after the trip to the coast, and then resumed the museum tour. I highly recommend this company and Miguel. The owner took special time to plan and get tickets for the museum for this tour which we really appreciated! Thank you for providing these wonderful tours!

Not worth it! - Unfortunately, there is so little to really see that remains of the Jewish area that the tour was not enjoyable and was very expensive for what was presented. Better off going to the Jewish museum on your own and saving the funds. Our tour guide spent most of the time talking about other aspects of Girona, not focusing on the Jewish community. We would walk a few steps and then stop and repeat, we were basically ‘using time’ as the tour itself could be done in 1 hours time. It is very unfortunate that this tour is even offered because as a customer, it was very disappointing and annoying to spend the money not worthy of the cost.
