Excellent Jewish history tours of Girona and Besalu. - Our tour guide was Mike, and he was a wealth of knowledge, and so much fun. Half way through the tour we stopped for lunch. Mike’s suggestions for restaurants was excellent. Regarding the tour itself, learning about the 1,000 year history and extensive contributions of the Jewish people in Girona and Besalu was eye-opening. It was disturbing to learn of the persecution and ghettoization of the Jewish people through the centuries, in spite of the fact that they were financial advisors and physicians to the elite of Spanish society. Particularly moving was the beauty of these two Medieval cities. Walking the narrow, winding streets was like being in a Time Machine. Our guide filled us in on the religious history of the cities, both Christian and Jewish. We saw where the synagogues used to be, and at the end of the tour, we visited the Jewish History museum of Girona. Fascinating! Our guide’s breadth of information was breathtaking. Suggestions: Bring good walking shoes!

Thanks for a wonderful tour! - The tour was incredible! It was because we had an amazing tour guide, Miguel. He is so knowledgeable and nice and made the entire day interesting and fun. We also were the only ones on the tour so we got a really personalized tour. We learned so much in such a short time. The tour exceeded our expectations thanks to Miguel! I highly recommend this tour with Miguel!

Great visit to Girona - Jewish history + GOT - Our young tour guide Gerard was very informative and personable. Gerard was also happy to incorporate Game of Thrones trivia with the Jewish tour. Girona has a great old town, but is also a vibrant city. Nice to choose a restaurant for lunch in advance. Besalu has one interesting Jewish sight (a mikvah), but I would have been fine skipping Besalu. The agency was willing to provide transport from BCN for a fee, but our family opted to take the fast train on our own from BCN (roughly 40 minutes). Either works. Would definitely recommend a visit to Girona if one still has time to see the key sights of BCN.

Excellent tour with an outstanding guide - Monica was an outstanding guide. Thish tour covered the high points of Jewish history in Girona, which effectively ended in 1492. She tailored the content to the knowledge and interests of the six of us in the group. Her English is excellent and nuanced. She has deep knowledge of the history and cultural traditions of the Jewish people and she treated the difficult topics with sensitivity. Although she was only allowed to accompany us, not guide us, through the Jewish museum, she managed to augment the explanations of the objects and put things into context. She also made sure to take us to the mikveh (ritual bath) next door, one of the more striking sights in this excellent tour. This tour offered very good value for the money. We recommend it highly.

Girona and Besalu, Jewish History tour Small Group from Girona - Spectacular tour of Jewish history in Girona and Besalu. We ended up being the only ones on the tour, but Marc and Carmen did not disappoint. Marc was amazing with his knowledge of Jewish history and culture, pointing out not just the obvious things but also small facts and things that are personal to someone with Jewish heritage. We went to Besalu first, which was crucial to beating tour bus crowds. We had the city to ourselves. Carmen obtained the mikveh key and we were the only ones in there. In Girona, thew Jewish museum was great, and our tour of the town featured interesting stories of other religions and Spanish history. Can't say enough about Marc - he answered every question from historical and current points of view, and he really cared that we understood what he was saying. This tour was a highlight of our time in Spain. We caught an early train from Barcelona just for the day, and it was totally worth it.
