- Magnesia Antik Kenti - The ancient city of Magnesia, situated in the Germencik district of Turkey’s western Aydın province, was renowned as the “city of races” and drew numerous visitors due to the many sporting events held there in antiquity. Today, the ancient city remains a popular destination, attracting visitors with its impressive stadium where athletic games, gladiatorial combats, and chariot races once took place. It is believed that Magnesia was established by the ancient Greek tribe of Magnetes from Thessaly. Although named after the Magnetes, it was later referred to as Magnesia on the Meander (The Büyük Menderes River) to distinguish it from the nearby Lydian city.
