• Pádraic Ó Conaire Statue (Replica) - Celebrating one of Galway’s most cherished figures, this statue of the storyteller, writer, and poet holds many tales and intriguing history.

• Quincentennial Fountain - Once a functioning fountain, this sculpture now connects us to Galway’s maritime heritage and the city’s founding.

• The Browne Doorway - A relic from Galway’s opulent past, this doorway belonged to one of the powerful merchant families that once governed the city. It stands as a fascinating piece of Galway’s recent and medieval history.

• Williamsgate Street - Entering through what was once the city’s Great Gate, we step into Galway’s now pedestrianized area, surrounded by numerous historical sites and the modern homes of Galway’s colorful characters.

• Lynch’s Castle - Dating back to the 14th century, Lynch’s Castle is a prime example of a medieval town castle in Ireland. We’ll explore its stonework, carvings, and structure, delving into the intriguing history, lore, and legends of the powerful Lynch family.

• The Lynch Memorial - This memorial commemorates the famous Lynch Legend, shrouded in myth and lore, with a particularly curious story about its origins and the messy facts surrounding it.

• Saint Nicholas’ Collegiate Church - Founded in 1320, this is the largest medieval parish church in continuous use in Ireland. The church and its grounds are rich with history and stories, and it hosts a vibrant market on weekends.

• Charlie Byrne’s Bookshop - A beloved Galway institution since the late 1980s, this bookshop moved to its current location in 1995. With over 100,000 books from floor to ceiling, it has become a cultural hub for the community.

• Naughton’s Pub (Tigh Neachtain) - Once the townhouse of one of Galway’s most colorful characters, Richard “Humanity Dick” Martin, this pub is now a must-visit spot and a hub for Galway’s artistic community and locals. It also offers the best tips and recommendations for food, drink, and shopping.

• Kirwan’s Lane - A tranquil lane running parallel to the bustling Quay Street, offering hidden gems and wonderful history.

• Quay Street - At the end of Quay Street stands Blakes Castle, once a stronghold and maritime gate to the city, nestled in the Latin Quarter.

• Fishmarket - Once a bustling fish market, this area is now a popular spot for locals to enjoy rare sunny days, with many stories hidden beneath its cobblestones.

• The Spanish Arch - The last remaining part of the city wall, this area was a hub for ships and sailors and holds fascinating history. Nearby is the museum, and just beyond is the Long Walk, tracing where the River Corrib meets the sea.

Growing up in Galway has given me an intimate knowledge of the rich and vibrant history of the jewel of the west, Galway.

Much like the strong currents of the River Corrib that run through it, the stories and tales of its inhabitants have flowed through my life. A family heritage of storytelling imbued me with a love for imparting a good yarn.
