A walk through history - A good way to see areas of Funchal that you may not be aware of and to get some historical information.

Good Tour with easy explanations - We used trip advisor who commissioned Heritage Tour part of Funchal Uni Don’t pay the big tour companies as the price we paid for this goes towards provide support for Funchal Uni students and the tour guides are all volunteers This was a great experience, the young man who showed us around asked if we wanted a full history tour or would we like half history half local knowledge all members of the party wanted 50/50, he was very knowledgable considering it was only his 6 th week escorting tours, all areas were explained in an easy to understand manner. well worth the money

Excellent - very informative guide. - Excellent. Lovely young student took us on this tour. He was very knowledgeable about the whole area and a good narrator, injecting humour whenever the situation presented itself. Wish I had done this tour at the beginning of my visit!

Lovely tour - A good choice for travellers who have a limited time in Funchal. It often can be a little overwhelming when visiting a place with a lot of history and culture. We have always found walking tours help get a better experience. These tours are guided by exchange students or current students. Hugo, our guide, was brilliant. He knew a lot, tried to help us find answers to our questions if he didn’t know, was very friendly and gave us lots of time to explore. The stops on the tour are a perfect mix of culture and history. We went back to lots of places later that day and on another day to properly experience some of them.

A thorough tour! - Joao was an excellent guide. His English is excellent and he tailored the tour to my interests as I was the only one on the tour. The guides are volunteers; your money goes to an organization that supports students. Highly recommended.

Good guide and nice tour of the old city. - Good experience with a very knowledgeable guide. However the point of meeting although known locally as the Jesuits College, is actually the University of the Jesuits on the side entrance and this should be made clear on the instructions of where to meet.

Take a walking tour to find your bearings - Always worth taking a walking tour when you visit a new city. These are meant to be done by students but ours didn't show so the boss(?) did it instead and she was great. Knowledgeable and interesting, she has a group with 2 native English speakers and 4 others (fluent but not native) and kept her story going and kept us engaged. Then we all got a taste of Madeira wine at the end (not my thing but a nice touch). Recommended

Positive experience - Overall the experience was positive. I noticed some lack of knowledge from the tour guide only. And there should have been in the middle a coffee/ toilet break.
