Camara De Lobos - Visit the charming fishing village of Camara de Lobos, where boats are moored in the bay, used for catching the renowned espada scabbard fish. The breathtaking view of the Cabo Girão cliff offers a glimpse into why Sir Winston Churchill found inspiration to paint here. The village’s name originates from the seals that once inhabited the hidden rocks. Poncha, a traditional drink made with sugarcane rum, is a local favorite. The journey to the next attractions passes through banana plantations, vineyards, and terraces, with quaint gardens and houses perched on cliffs.
-
Cabo Girao - Recognized as the highest cliff in Europe and the second highest in the world, it features a glass platform offering stunning views of the terraces by the beach, Funchal, the Bay of Camara de Lobos, and nearby villages, leaving visitors mesmerized. There is a 2.00€ entrance fee, payable by cash or card.
-
Ribeira Brava - Nestled among mountains and almost hidden in the riverbed, this village boasts numerous monuments, including a beautifully decorated church, a 17th-century fortress, and a quaint market offering a variety of fruits and vegetables. The island’s best queijada cake (cheese tart) is found here. This stop provides an opportunity for coffee and restroom breaks before continuing the journey to the mountains.
