Pico dos Barcelos viewpoint, situated 355 meters above sea level, offers a stunning and expansive view of the charming town of Funchal. Our journey takes us to the heart of Madeira and the Curral das Freiras (Nun’s Valley), a place encircled by massive mountains. The nuns of the Convent of Santa Clara used Curral das Freiras as a sanctuary in the 15th century. Before reaching Pico do Arreiro, the island’s third tallest peak, we will be stopping at Miradouro do Paredão offering a splendid outlook of Curral das Freiras. Significant reforestation efforts have been undertaken in this region.
