Fukuokaken Gokoku Shrine - Gokoku Shrine
In May of the first year of the Meiji era, following Emperor Meiji’s wishes, a memorial shrine named Gokoku Jinja was founded by local former feudal lords and others to honor those who gave their lives for the country during the Meiji Restoration and to soothe their spirits. Situated along the approach near Ohori Park, a grand torii gate stands at an impressive 13 meters tall, said to be made from the finest Japanese timber.
