Kamishikimi Kumanoimasu Shrine is primarily dedicated to the deities Izanagi-no-Mikoto, Izanami-no-Mikoto, and Ishigami Daishogun. The legendary Chuanduyan is believed to be a ten-foot hole created by the demon Hachiboshi while fleeing from the Aso Great God. Today, it is a beloved spot where visitors can soak in the natural energy.
Chuanduyan
Above the shrine hall lies a vast wind cave (Chuanduyan), said to have been formed by the demon Hachiboshi, a follower of Kenzanryu-no-Mikoto. This impressive cave, over 10 meters in length and width, penetrates a massive rock. “Chuanduyan” symbolizes the achievement of even the most challenging goals and is believed to ensure success in exams.
- Amanoiwato Shrine - Located in Takachiho Town, Nishiusuki District, Miyazaki Prefecture, Amanoiwato Shrine is famous for its stone-piling wishes on the Tenno River Plain.
Nishihongu is the sacred cave where Amaterasu Omikami once hid, revered as a divine entity.
According to legend, a large cave nearby was where Amaterasu Omikami concealed herself, plunging the world into darkness. Concerned, the other gods allowed Ame-no-Uzume to perform a dance outside the cave, causing laughter. The joyous atmosphere piqued Amaterasu’s curiosity about the new deity, prompting her to peek through the rock’s opening. At that moment, the gods presented a divine mirror. Amaterasu Omikami, delighted by her reflection, emerged from Amano Iwato, restoring light to the world.
Amanoyasukawara
It is believed that making a wish by stacking stones here can lead to its fulfillment, prompting many to construct wishing stone towers.
