Basseterre - Begin your day with a tour of our capital city, Basseterre. Discover buildings from the 18th century that have been preserved alongside modern structures. This historic French town also features unused slave quarters and the bustling atmosphere of a business day.
This city tour includes landmarks such as the Immaculate Conception Catholic Co-Cathedral overlooking Independence Square, judicial buildings, Warner Park (the international football and cricket stadium), St. George’s Anglican Church, Government Headquarters, and more, each with its own story to tell.
Island Main Road: The tour continues westward, passing between the fertile mountains of Liamuiga, which were used for sugar cane harvesting for 350 years, from the 1650s to the mid-2000s. You’ll also see the tranquil Caribbean Sea, university areas, former slave communities, and other developments. This part of the tour offers insights into our culture and island life. - Berkeley Memorial - Explore the busiest part of Basseterre at our main taxi stand, surrounded by three former international banks, a national museum, and the Berkeley Memorial Clock. Learn about the historical significance of this water fountain, which stands in the heart of our town and features four faces pointing to all connecting streets.
- Independence Square - Visit this charming public square in Basseterre, now used for trade fairs, lunch breaks, or simply enjoying nature amidst a busy workday. Independence Square, shaped like the Union Jack, was once an old slave market and is now a place of peace and tranquility.
- Bloody River - This site evokes the emotions and history of the war between Europeans and Amerindians for settlers’ rights. A short drive further west offers a stunning view of the Old Road community, extending to Brimstone Hill Forest. This vantage point showcases the carefully crafted landscape of St. Kitts, including our volcano, Mount Liamuiga, and neighboring islands, weather permitting. Local vendors are available.
- Wingfield Estate Sugar Plantation Ruins - Located in the historic town of Old Road, Wingfield Estate sits at the base of our island’s central mountain range, surrounded by lush mountain slopes. This national park includes the Wingfield rainforest, which provides up to three-quarters of our island’s water supply. The site highlights some of the property’s original crops, such as tobacco and indigo, and demonstrates the process of harvesting and preserving sugar cane. The ruins and dated equipment bring to life the history of this industry, including the original rum distillery that was buried for many years. Experience local culture, taste local rum or a freshly made non-dairy smoothie, and enjoy the sounds of nature, including friendly Vervet Monkeys. Local vendors and restrooms are available.
- Caribelle Batik at Romney Manor - Immerse yourself in a beautiful botanical garden featuring over 14 types of palm trees, combined with a batik factory tour and gift shop. Relax at the rainforest bar while watching and listening to the wildlife. This site was once the property of Amerindian Chief Tegreman and shares historical connections with the ancestors of Thomas Jefferson and the Early of Romney. It’s the perfect place for a photoshoot.
- Timothy Hill - End your excursion at Timothy Hill, standing approximately 179 meters (587 feet) above sea level. Enjoy views of the most affluent area of St. Kitts, with picturesque green mountains and colorful houses. On the other side, take in the breathtaking view of the Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean Sea in one frame. On a clear day, you can also see our sister island, Nevis, and other neighboring islands. Local vendors are available.
- South Friars Beach - Unwind at this optional beach stop. Sink your toes into the warm sand, soak up the sun, get a massage, drink fresh coconut water, or cool off in the Caribbean Sea, with a view of our sister island, Nevis. This beach is just 15 minutes away from the cruise terminal.
