To grind grain, a valve is opened, setting the mill wheel in motion. Barley, oats, buckwheat, and wheat were traditionally milled here, particularly from the nearby island of Benigut, where several families resided. They used to cross via a causeway, which has since disappeared, first dismantled for building materials and then eroded by the tides.
The interior is open for visits during the summer, with a nominal fee supporting the association that maintains the site. - Citadelle - The renowned fortress on the South Island, now home to art glassmakers.
