Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump World Heritage Site - This is an option stop
Sitting atop a prairie hill, the interpretive center at Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump overlooks the spot where the primary food source and way of life were herded toward the edge and fell to their death. The demise of the bison provided sustenance and contributed to all facets of the Plains people’s way of being. Bison were how they clothed themselves, sustained themselves throughout brutal winters and provided shelter from the harsh prairie elements. - Bison Paddock Loop Road - This scenic overlook takes you to the more traditional prairie views where grazing Bison roam about the rough fescue. Located below the Overlook, Bison can frequently be seen within the paddock.
- Red Rock Canyon - Red Rock Canyon Waterton Park is one of the most scenic and geologically rich places inside the National Park. Blakiston Falls is an easy to reach waterfall near Red Rock Canyon. This is an incredible area for geology geeks as the rocks are ancient, colourful and fascinating.
- Akamina Parkway - The Akamina Parkway in Waterton Lakes National Park (a.k.a. Cameron Lake Road), is a gorgeous 9.4 mile drive through an amazing canyon that ends at the incredibly scenic Cameron Lake. You will more than likely see wildlife on or near the Akamina Parkway. Bighorn sheep are often seen in the cliffs along the first several miles of the parkway, and sometimes you’ll see a band of bighorn sheep actually on the road.
- Waterton Village - Nestled in the center of Waterton Lakes National Park is the charming Waterton Park Townsite, also known as Waterton Village. This wonderful little village is so perfectly well-kept, charming and cute.
- Longview - Longview is a village in southern Alberta, Canada. It is located in the Canadian Rockies foothills, on Cowboy Trail, 32 km west of High River and 64 km south of Calgary. Highwood River flows west of the village.
Longview is known for its long view west toward the first range of the Rocky Mountains, its cattle ranching heritage and its natural resources (principally oil), but more importantly the open spaces, rivers (the Highwood) and some of the finest beef by most standards.
Longview is also known as the home of late Canadian Country Music star Ian Tyson.
