- Chiesa del Soccorso - A site of worship and legend, the Church of Soccorso in Forio d’Ischia is not only stunning but holds special significance for the island’s residents. Perched on a small promontory overlooking the sea, it is dedicated to the Madonna della Neve. Its white facade stands out from afar, embodying classic Mediterranean architecture. The Soccorso promontory in Forio also features the Torrione, another emblem of the Forio community.
- Spiaggia di Citara - The bay of Citara is steeped in legends, making it a captivating place. The tales, passed down by the old Forian farmers, speak of myths from ancient times. The town’s name is believed to originate from Venus Citarea and the miracle that formed the bay of Citara and its spa, from the tears of the goddess mourning Adonis. Another story suggests it was Tifeo’s tears of joy, upon receiving Jupiter’s forgiveness, that flooded the bay. The Stone of the Ship is said to be a mere rock, but legends claim it is the galley Ulysses sailed on, gifted by Alcinous, king of the Phaeacians, to return to Ithaca.
- Baia di Sorgeto - Ischia’s volcanic nature makes it rich in thermal springs, even flowing directly into the sea. The bay of Sorgeto is a natural open-air thermal park, free and accessible year-round. Visitors can enjoy the warm waters even in winter, as temperatures in the pools can reach up to 37 degrees. The Bay of Sorgeto offers a unique experience where hot and cold waters mix with fresh and salty waters, providing tourists with unforgettable sensations. A stop in this magnificent bay allows for a dip in these thermal marine waters, space permitting.
- Sant’Angelo - Sant’Angelo d’Ischia is one of the island’s most enchanting villages. An oasis of peace and tranquility, it is car-free, with charming alleys and houses leaning against each other, showcasing typical Mediterranean architecture. Once a fishing village, it is now an elegant destination for elite tourists arriving at the port with luxurious yachts. Nestled at the foot of Serrara Fontana, it is the jewel of Ischia. A stop here allows visitors to immerse themselves in the waters of this magical village.
- Maronti Beach - “Spiaggia dei Maronti” is one of Ischia’s most renowned and frequented beaches. Surrounded by pristine natural landscapes, it offers breathtaking views of the coast and crystal-clear waters. Fumaroles, a famous volcanic phenomenon, can be seen at the start of Maronti beach in the Sant’Angelo area, caused by the town’s geothermal activity. Here, thermal waters reach the island’s highest temperatures, nearing 100°C. Cavascura, Ischia’s oldest thermal basin, is a captivating site that reflects the history of ancient civilizations on the island. Cavascura retains its original appearance and offers one of Europe’s oldest and most evocative spa centers, where tourists can relax with massages, mud baths, or thermal showers.
- La Scarrupata - La Scarrupata encompasses the coastal stretch from Punta San Pancrazio to beyond Capo Grosso. It features a high coast and a pebbly beach strip. La Scarrupata is a place of extraordinary beauty overlooking the sea, offering tourists an unforgettable panorama. The various volcanic layers of what was once one of the island’s largest volcanoes, now largely eroded by the sea, can be seen. It is accessible by sea or via a path.
- San Pancrazio - Situated in the island’s south, this bay is a natural treasure offering breathtaking views. The Bay of San Pancrazio is a pebble bay with crystal-clear waters inviting long swims and relaxing sunbaths. The bay’s lush vegetation enhances the enchanting landscape. The trees and rich Mediterranean flora create a serene atmosphere, perfect for those seeking the beauty of untouched nature.
- La Spiaggia e la Baia di Cartaromana - One of the island’s most scenic spots, offering views of the Aragonese Castle, Michelangelo’s Tower, and the historically rich rocks of Sant’Anna, linked to a legend about fertility. Here, as in Sorgeto and Cavagrado, visitors can experience natural thermalism firsthand. The water may feel warmer at times due to a thermal spring beneath, a submarine fumarole studied by biologists worldwide.
- Castello Aragonese - The Aragonese Castle is a fortification on a tidal island of trachytic rock on Ischia’s eastern side, connected by a 220 m long masonry bridge to the ancient village of Celsa, known as Ischia Ponte. The islet’s formation is due to a synaptic eruption over 300,000 years ago. It is an absolute symbol of this side of the island, known for its grandeur and historical significance. If weather and sea conditions permit, a stop here allows for a swim in the castle’s waters and a delightful Ischia aperitif with local wine.
- Spiaggia Dei Pescatori - The Fishermen’s beach, commonly known as Mandra beach, is near Ischia Porto, about 200 meters from Ischia Ponte’s entrance. Once exclusively for fishermen, it is a picturesque beach with soft golden sand in a unique and evocative setting, featuring the Aragonese Castle, the colorful Mandra village houses, and the blue islands of Vivara and Procida offshore. Nearby, an old stone mill and an ancient patrician residence add to the charm. Wooden fishermen’s boats on the sand and the aroma of fresh fish from seaside restaurants create an authentic and pleasant atmosphere.
- Spiaggia degli Inglesi - Located in the Casamicciola-Ischia port area, the “Beach of the English” is a small volcanic beach with pebbles and dark sand. Situated on the island’s north coast, it is sheltered by cliffs. This secluded beach got its name during World War II when the British used it as a landing point during an attack. Finding this hidden gem adds a touch of adventure to a beautiful walk. Look for the cobblestone path near the pier at Ischia Porto’s far end, marked by vibrant bougainvillea guiding the way.
- Casamicciola Terme - Casamicciola Terme is located on Ischia’s northern side and is historically the island’s oldest tourist destination. Initially, its appeal came from the many thermal water sources. In Casamicciola Terme, thermal baths were likely enjoyed as far back as the Bronze Age. This municipality boasts the highest number of thermal springs on the island and was inhabited in the 6th century BC, as evidenced by finds in the Cretaio area, the upper part of Casamicciola Terme. Many visit to benefit from its thermal waters, renowned for their healing properties for centuries.
- Fungo Di Lacco Ameno - The iconic Ischia Mushroom is the symbol of Lacco Ameno. It is a tuff boulder that detached from Mount Epomeo, rolled into the sea, and took on its mushroom shape due to marine erosion, sculpted by water and wind. Il Fungo is located in the sea, on a cliff’s edge, visible in the water in front of Corso Angelo Rizzoli, in Lacco Ameno’s center. While it may seem like a simple rock, its journey from Epomeo and natural shaping make it a symbol of nature’s incredible power and Lacco Ameno.
- Spiaggia di Varulo - Nature offers unparalleled glimpses, remaining untouched and accessible to few. In Lacco Ameno, a small bay can only be reached by sea. Known as Monache beach or Varulo, it is a golden sand inlet surrounded by nature. The flight of seagulls, cicadas’ chirping, and a pristine sea, the realm of nuns and mollusks that named this magnificent bay. A stop here allows visitors to enjoy its refreshing waters and feel rejuvenated.
