- Gallerie Degli Uffizi - The Uffizi Gallery (Italian: Galleria degli Uffizi) is a renowned art museum situated next to the Piazza della Signoria in the Historic Centre of Florence, Tuscany, Italy. As one of Italy’s most significant museums and the most frequented, it is also among the largest and most famous globally, housing a collection of invaluable artworks, especially from the Italian Renaissance era.
Following the extinction of the Medici ruling family, their art collections were bequeathed to the city of Florence through the notable Patto di famiglia, orchestrated by Anna Maria Luisa, the last Medici heiress. The Uffizi is one of the earliest modern museums. The gallery had been accessible to visitors upon request since the 16th century, and in 1765 it was officially opened to the public, formally becoming a museum in 1865.
Today, the Uffizi stands as one of Florence’s most popular tourist destinations and ranks among the most visited art museums worldwide.
