A great day out - picturesque and relaxed - The trip is well paced, not much time in each town but enough to not feel rushed. The crew (Mario, Roberto and Alex) were all very good and got us between each destination with ease. Ideal excursion for both solo travellers and groups.

An Introduction to Cinque Terre - This tour is a good introduction to Cinque Terre! A very long but beautiful day. Almost all of our trains were delayed by 10-20 minutes, so we had limited time in the towns, through no fault of the tour itself. We thought that maybe touring just 3 of the 5 towns would have been preferred due to this, as it would have given us plenty of time to sightsee. Monterosso was our favorite and was absolutely breathtaking, we were able to spend the most time there thankfully. Our tour guide, Claudia kept everything very organized, especially considering there was around 60+ people. Our tour was in English and Spanish, and majority was Spanish as there were only a handful of English speakers on board. Our driver, Super Mario, was incredibly skilled to get us to and from the area - I would not want to try and drive those roads myself! If one is planning on going there, it would be good to note that this is not a "guided tour" per say - we are brought to and from each town in an organized manner and are left to roam freely afterwards. Also, the park pass to Cinque Terre (certain sites/hikes/etc) is not included in the cost, which we did not know. Overall, we had a good day, and it was a good introduction to Cinque Terre if one has never been before. In the future we feel like we would now be confident to travel there on our own due to the tour.

Never take the paid lunch! - Recommended excursion and guides but NEVER TAKE THE PAID LUNCH!!! The excursion we were on was well organized, so we saw a lot in a relatively short time and enjoyed the beautiful landscapes. Roberto, Alex and Mario are very professional and kind. The worst part of the excursion was the lunch we took through the agency. The restaurant had an outdoor terrace that was empty, and they crammed us into an indoor area. We took the fish menu, got a starter with a small pile of seafood, and the main course that was supposed to be fish was reduced to pasta with pesto!!? To top it all off, it was ridiculous, a small pile of panna cotta in an aluminum foil dish, embarrassingly bad...

Good but could be improved - The place is gorgeous. However as far as tour goes, we felt lost and spend half of our minimal time looking for the meeting point. This was pretty disappointing. Also we took a tour in french but the tour was also simultaneously given in English and Spanish. French was always last, thus we almost always had our information cut short. We wasted 10 minutes at each stop too waiting for the information to be translated in french after each languages have been given. The meal included was pretty small and took an hour.

Say “No” to Ciao Florence! - What a let down! Our hotel recommended going with Ciao Florence for a trip to the Cinque Terre. We went to the office in Florence to sign up since each of us wanted to pay separately. First the clerk books only 3 trips instead of 6, but charges 6 credit cards. We needed to pay the difference. No problem, but they needed to talk with the sales office and couldn’t figure out how fix the issue on the computer. Over an hour and a half later, they fixed everything and she tells us it’s all her fault and she’s going to ask for free trips for our hassle. We were going to sign up for another tour at the same time and she goes, no wait because it might be free. I called on Saturday and explained the situation to someone in the sales office and she beats around the bush and finally says she can give me a 10% discount like she’s doing me a favor. Big Deal. I can get that same discount using the code on the tourist map I got from the hotel. We go on the tour on Sunday and the check- in is less than stellar. We hit the road and we get to Levanto to start our day. Two guides for about 55-60 people, splitting the group by languages. No microphone, he has a small white board the he uses for where to meet and time as if we are deaf. Oh he’s talking to us, but it’s so difficult to hear when you’re in a large group in a train stations and spread out. We were in Pisa the day before and there was a bachelorette party going on and they had a battery operated microphone to tell the people Maria was getting married as they walked through town. Why can’t Ciao Florence get a microphone for their guides to use instead of a white board? We played follow the leader from the parking lot to the train to get to our first village. He’s got a stick with a faded flag on it that isn’t very good nor easy to follow. Guide was nice enough and does his job ok, but logistics were lacking. We go to 2 more villages by train and then take a ferry to the last village. Fairly uneventful, but some more guidance on where to go eat (on the coast or go into town) would have been helpful. We get ready for the ferry and the winds have picked up by this time. Problem with having enough tickets for the group. We finally set sail and then have an hour or so in the last village. After waiting for over an hour to get a train, why I don’t know, we finally get on the train back to Levanto start our trip back to Florence. This is where it fell apart. Not a lot of communication since we’re in a tunnel waiting on the train and basically single file. Once we get off the train we don’t wait to make sure everyone is there, we head back over to the bus and flag he’s carrying is barely visible. One person in our group of 6 couldn’t see the guide nor his flag and got turned around going the wrong way. When she figured out that the group went a different direction, she ran to the bus area. Our group of friends were split sitting upstairs and downstairs and we didn’t realize she wasn’t with us. All of a sudden someone is yelling to stop the bus as it’s pulling away and there’s our friend running up to the bus. There were 2 guides on the bus and neither made sure everyone was on the bus. Oh, they counted AFTER they realized they screwed up and left someone behind. On Monday we went to visit the office to let them know what happened and they could have cared less. No customer service, no apology that their personnel messed up, nothing. It was like talking to a brick wall! This is no way to run a business with false promises and no customer service! Travel with Ciao Florence at your own risk!

Great tour, just make sure guide speaks good English! - Started out pretty bad, couldn’t understand 1/2 of what our guide Claudia was saying on the bus. She really needs to get better at speaking English before becoming a guide. Luckily we changed guides at our 1st stop and the tour was fantastic from then on with Constantino who we had a few days earlier on a different tour..
