Highlights
  • Secret Lagoon - Gamla Laugin - Originally built in 1891, the
    Gamla Laugin
as it eventually came to be known, was Iceland’s first swimming pool. For decades thereafter, Gamla Laugin was virtually abandoned until its present day owner decided to give it new life in 2005. By this time, the pool had long been forgotten and for a few years he used it as his own private heated swimming pool just for himself and a few friends, remaining a secret for several years. That is how The Secret Lagoon got its enigmatic name.

A natural hot spring feeds the lagoon with 38-39°C water that bubbles up from deep within the earth at a rate of 10 litres per second, constantly replenishing itself so that there is a steady supply of fresh clean water in the pool at any given time.

The Secret Lagoon offers brand new facilities next the hot spring area in Fludir. Facilities available: changing rooms, showers, resting rooms, bar and restaurant area. With the completion of changing rooms, showering facilities, outside deck, walkways and a small café, The Secret Lagoon quietly opened in the summer of 2014.

Additional Information

Located in the petite village of Fludir, amidst the Golden Circle area, you will find the Secret Lagoon natural hot springs. We’ve preserved its uniqueness and natural charm to offer our visitors an authentic Icelandic experience. A truly enchanting ambiance is created by the natural backdrop and steam evaporating into thin air. The water temperature consistently remains between 38-40 Celsius throughout the year. The entire vicinity is adorned with numerable geothermal spots and a quaint Geysir that graciously performs an eruption every 5 minutes for the amusement of our guests unwinding in the hot spring. During winters, the area often becomes a theatre to the spectacular Northern lights, and what could be a more mesmerizing way to relish this spectacle than soaking in the warm water amidst the earthly steam?

Mandatory stage - Great place, Recommendation to everyone to go here to relax. Ample parking, friendly staff. Before entering the lagoon you have to take a shower completely naked, the showers stocked with shower shampoo and conditioner, spotless changing rooms with personal lockers, I found the dryer for costume and towel very comfortable. As for the lagoon, what can I say, I was speechless, after a long way traveled to visit Iceland we relaxed a lot, the place is fantastic and Recommendation to everyone, mandatory stop❤️

Really nice place - Not crowded - It was a relaxing experience. Didn’t feel crowded. Can’t compare it to anything else as it was the only hot water bath we went to. Great experience.

Not so secret swimming pool. - Not very secret, more like an overheated public pool with black mold floating around. The warm water was relaxing, but it was crowded.

Beautiful Place But Too Crowded - This place is beautiful and charming. However our family of 4 arrived just before opening at 10:00 and 3 tour busses pulled up behind us. I’m not sure what the place’s entry capacity is but it was way too crowded to be enjoyable. We left after around 20 minutes. Can’t fault the Secret Lagoon except maybe don’t allow so many people in at a given time. Would have gladly paid double the entry fee (or more) to have had fewer people. But I understand that being on the Golden Circle that might not be possible.

Insane that people actually go here - Avoid at all costs! I really can’t believe how bad an experience this was. It’s like someone dug a pool in their backyard. And they have crazy rules about having to get naked in the locker room. And don’t get your shoes or towels stolen either.
