Good Information, Just a Little Tricky on the South Rim - On our 9 day trip around the Grand Canyon, we used the Shaka Guide driving app as kind of a fill-in for information as we drove around. We had used Shaka previously on a Kauai trip, and it seemed to work pretty well, especially the fact that by tracking your car via GPS, they know where to tell you to turn and stop. The South Rim is a bit of a challenge because so many of the great viewing points are on the Red Trolley route from Grand Canyon Village, and no cars are allowed on this route during peak season. They said you could use the app with headphones, which I'm sure would work fine, but we didn't bother. Instead, we used the app when we were in the car driving around the rest of the South Rim. Some of the stories and corny jokes are just filler material I'm sure, but there is some good historical information in there if you pay attention. The site specific apps are not that expensive, to it is a good way to do a tour when you're spending a lot of time in the car.

A lack of understanding by Viator of the product - Once started we had a good time, however, there was a disconnect between Viator and the tour company. We had purchased the audio tour and really didn’t have to travel over an hour to Flagstaff to start the tour. We didn’t have to meet up with a member of the tour company to get equipment. All we needed to do was download the audio tour . We could have started the tour anywhere along the way. We did a lot of driving out of our way for nothing. But once started it went well.
