- Red Beach - Red Beach is one of the island’s most picturesque and intriguing beaches, located near Akrotiri village. Its popularity stems from its unique color. Red Beach is undoubtedly worth a visit, as it offers a rare sight where red is the dominant hue. It is surrounded by steep red hills that create a captivating, wild landscape. From the top, you can see massive volcanic rocks in the sea, small pebbles, and sand in various colors, mainly red, along the beach, and the alluring dark blue waters. This stunning palette of contrasting colors will captivate you. Another natural wonder created by the volcano. We stop here only for photos.
- Ieros Naos Panagias Episkopis Thiras - Santorini Churches & Religion, Monasteries, Religious Holidays, Festivals, and Greek Namedays
Located in the village of Episkopi Gonia (also known as Mesa Gonia) is the beautiful Byzantine church of Panagia Episkopi. The church is considered the finest example of traditional ecclesiastical architecture on the island by Mathaios Mendrinos, author of the booklet “The Church of Episkopi in Santorini,” distributed by the Ecclesiastical Committee of the church.
Panagia Episkopi was constructed in the late 11th Century by Emperor Alexios A’ Kominos. The church is an important Byzantine monument and houses the icon of Panagia Glikofilousa, one of the three most priceless portable icons in the world.
