Erg Chebbi - The journey begins in the morning as the lively streets of Fes are left behind, heading southward. The first destination is Ifrane, often referred to as the “Switzerland of Morocco,” where European-style chalets line the wide, pristine avenues. The route then passes through Azrou’s cedar forest, home to the renowned Barbary macaques, offering a refreshing mountain atmosphere.
Continuing through the striking landscapes of the Middle Atlas, there will be a stop to admire the panoramic views of the lush Ziz Valley, adorned with palm trees and traditional kasbahs.
By late afternoon, Merzouga is reached, where camels await. The ride across the expansive Erg Chebbi dunes offers a view of the golden sunset melting into the horizon. At the desert’s heart, a luxurious Berber camp awaits, featuring private tents, showers, and traditional Moroccan hospitality.
As the stars illuminate the sky, a delightful Moroccan dinner is served, followed by Berber drumming and storytelling around the campfire.
Merzouga – Rissani – Todra Gorge – Dades Valley
Dades Gorges - An early rise allows for witnessing the sunrise over the dunes, a serene and unforgettable experience. After breakfast, the camels are ridden back to the village to reunite with the driver.
The next destination is Rissani, the spiritual center of Morocco’s ruling dynasty. The traditional souk, filled with spices, dates, and handmade crafts, is explored before heading towards the rugged landscapes of Todra Gorge, a dramatic canyon with 300-meter-high cliffs.
Time is taken to stretch along the gorge, walk beneath its towering walls, and capture stunning photographs. The journey then follows the Dades Valley, known as the “Valley of a Thousand Kasbahs,” where a charming guesthouse surrounded by surreal rock formations provides a restful stay.
Dades Valley – Ouarzazate – Ait Ben Haddou – Marrakech
Ait Ben Haddou - After breakfast, the drive continues through the Valley of Roses, with an optional visit to a local rose cooperative, especially beautiful in spring. The journey proceeds to Ouarzazate, often called the Hollywood of Africa, where films like Gladiator and Game of Thrones were shot.
The iconic Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of Morocco’s most photographed landmarks, is explored. The guide leads through its narrow clay paths, sharing tales of caravan traders and film crews.
The ascent over the High Atlas Mountains begins, winding through the breathtaking Tizi n’Tichka Pass at over 2,260 meters. A stop is made for panoramic views before descending into the vibrant city of Marrakech, where the journey concludes in the early evening.
