Edinburgh - Oban

The Kelpies & The Helix - Witness the awe-inspiring Kelpies, towering 30-foot metal horse sculptures, located at the entrance of the Forth and Clyde Canals. These sculptures pay homage to Central Scotland’s industrial heritage. You’ll quickly understand why the Kelpies are becoming one of Scotland’s most iconic landmarks and a prime spot for photography.

Balloch - Traveling west, we head towards Balloch, a town situated at the southern end of Loch Lomond’s Bonnie Banks. Here, you can explore the area and opt for an hour-long boat cruise on the loch. While enjoying the stunning scenery from the boat, you’ll also hear expert commentary from Neil Oliver, a renowned Scottish historian and archaeologist.

Rest and be Thankful - We proceed north to the village of Arrochar, nestled on the edge of Loch Long at the base of the Arrochar Alps’ high peaks. We then ascend the steep pass of Rest and be Thankful, stopping for lunch in the village of Inveraray, the seat of the Clan Campbell and Dukes of Argyll. The town, bordered by the seawater of Loch Fyne, is famous for its oysters and seafood.

Kilmartin Glen - Next, we visit Kilmartin Glen, one of Europe’s richest Neolithic sites. The Glen is home to numerous ancient standing stones, rock carvings, and burial chambers. You’ll have time to wander among some of the nearby standing stones and burial chambers.

Oban - We arrive in Oban around 6:30 PM at our central drop-off point - 1 Station Rd, Oban, PA34 4NU. The evening is yours to explore the city or join fellow travelers for a meal in a local restaurant or traditional pub.

Glencoe - Departing Oban, we travel along Loch Linnhe through the Great Glen to our first stop of the day in Glencoe. Considered by many as Scotland’s most impressive glen, the towering peaks of this majestic landscape witnessed the infamous Massacre of Glencoe in 1692. Your driver-guide will explain the details of this event and its significance in Highland history, fueling the Jacobite Rebellions for years to come. There will be ample time for photographs in Glencoe before we head to our next stunning location – Glenfinnan Monument and Viaduct.

Glenfinnan Viaduct - Glenfinnan offers something for everyone. Set on the edge of the fjord-like Loch Shiel, it is one of Scotland’s most picturesque spots. It is also where, on August 17, 1745, Bonnie Prince Charlie raised the Royal Stuart Standard, initiating the last Jacobite Rebellion, which nearly changed history but ended in defeat at the Battle of Culloden seven months later. In recent times, the Glenfinnan Viaduct has gained fame among Harry Potter fans as the railway bridge crossed by the Hogwarts Express. Climb the hill for the best views of the Monument to the 1745 Rebellion and the Viaduct.

Fort William - We then travel to Fort William, where you have two options:

Option 1 – Tour the Ben Nevis Whisky Distillery to see how Scotland’s most famous export is made and matured. The tour concludes with a tasting of Ben Nevis single malt whisky – the true “water of life.”

Option 2 – Step back in time as you explore the ruins of the late 13th-century Inverlochy Castle (free). You can also visit Neptune’s Staircase, the starting point of the Caledonian Canal, opened in 1826 and designed by Thomas Telford to link the Atlantic Ocean on Scotland’s west side with the North Sea on its east.

Lunch is in Fort William, the second-largest town in the Highlands (after Inverness), where the ruined fort was destroyed by Jacobite forces at the start of the 1745 Rebellion.

Pitlochry - Pitlochry is located in the heart of Highland Perthshire’s stunning scenery. The town lies below Beinn Bhracaigh (Ben Vrackie), the speckled mountain, and beside the River Tummel, amidst some of Scotland’s most magnificent landscapes. With surrounding hills and beautiful woodlands, it is a wonderful area for walking.

Forth Bridge - As we re-enter Edinburgh from the north, you’ll be greeted with views of Scotland’s greatest engineering feat and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Forth Bridge. This 19th-century marvel was once the world’s longest cantilever bridge. Today, it stands alongside the 20th-century Forth Road Bridge and the 21st-century Queensferry Crossing, which opened in 2017. These three spectacular bridges, from three different centuries, span the Firth of Forth, connecting our capital city with the Kingdom of Fife.
