The journey begins with a drive from Gondar to Debark, the main town for the national park. A stop will be made here to obtain permission to enter the park and to meet the scout. This region offers breathtaking views over the escarpment with its sheer drops. Visitors are likely to encounter troops of the endemic Gelada Baboons and observe them closely. There is also a chance to see common jackals, klipspringers, and more. The area is rich in birdlife, including the Thick-billed Raven, Augur Buzzard, Black Kites, Lammergeyer, and various plant species such as the Abyssinian Rose, Erica Arborea tree, Euphorbia species, and St. John’s Wort tree (Hypericum revolutum). The car will pick up guests at Chilkuwanit and drive them back to Gondar.
