- Alto de La Farrapona - Our adventure begins as we make our way to the Alto de la Farrapona mountain pass.
On the journey, we will be captivated by the wild beauty of the rocky mountains and pass through areas with several viewpoints perfect for bear watching.
Upon reaching Alto de la Farrapona, we will embark on a leisurely hike to La Cueva Lake (1-hour round trip). From the Alto de la Farrapona lookout, we will be treated to breathtaking views surrounded by majestic mountains.
- Somiedo Ecomuseum - Next, we will travel to Veigas to explore the Somiedo Ecomuseum. Here, we will learn about traditional crafts, transhumance, and the renowned “teito” huts—distinctive dwellings with thatched roofs, characteristic of the region.
- Pola de Somiedo - We will visit Pola de Somiedo, the region’s capital and the heart of the Somiedo Natural Park. This charming Asturian village, nestled among the mountains since the 13th century, is situated along the Somiedo River.
Here, we will wander through its picturesque cobbled streets and visit the 18th-century Church of San Pedro before enjoying some free time to have lunch and savor the local cuisine.
- La Peral - Finally, we will proceed to the village of La Peral, located at 1,200 meters above sea level. This village is a former highland “braña” of the Vaqueiros de Alzada, a traditional group of nomadic herders.
- Mirador del Príncipe - In La Peral, we will ascend to the “del Príncipe” lookout, where we can enjoy stunning views over the valley.
