Amazing insight into Ancient Roman life - Fantastic experience. My partner and I really enjoyed this experiemce at this lesser known archaelogical site. Danielo was a wonderful guide, warm, funny, so knowledgeable and managed the group really well (we were a relatively large group). His insights into both the life of everyday citizens of Herculaneum, the history of the town and the processes of both the excavation, restoration and preservation of items in the site. The site is much, much quieter than Pompeii, and if you are interested in seeing better preserved original features of these beautiful ancient sites, I would recommend Herculaneum as a must see. Seeing the site with an archaeologist also really brings more scientific perspective to the miracle of these places still being able to be visited today, but also an understanding of how people lived in ancient Roman times. Highly recommend this tour with Danielo, he was absolutely lovely!

Excellent introduction to Herculaneum - Luciano’s enthusiasm and passion for archeology brought the ruins to life. He provided rich explanations of life in Herculaneum, from the routine of checking the validity of coins, to the extravagance of the rich and their homes. He pointed out details that would otherwise have been missed, like the recycling of broken oil amphorae (pots) into the concrete footpaths. He also provided excellent comparison to Pompeii, explaining the similarities and differences with this site. A ‘must-do’ if you’re visiting Herculaneum.

A must do tour for this stunning roman sight. - This tour was excellent. There were about 18 of us in total and the tour guide was an archeologist who had worked on Herculaneum and Pompei so was extremely knowledgeable. It took around 1.5 hours and he showed us some incredible sights, including the roman wine bar, the stunning mosaic floors, the ladies spa, and beautiful paintings. To walk along the road where romans once lived just blew our minds. To think it was all buried by 20 meters of mud sludge after the Vesuvius eruption and wasn't found until the 1700's by a farmer digging a well is extraordinary. There are good loo facilities at the sight and a place to by water and drinks. Easy to get to on the train. Highly recommended. Once you have done this - do go and visit the Museum of Archeological finds in Naples where there are so many stunning statues and roman paintings and mosaics from both Herculaneum and Pompei.

Great archeological site. Not to miss. - The tour guide was just too much into his own research. Often difficult to understand but he tried hard to communicate with us. He helped us understand the details of what happened that day and how the community was originally built next to the shore. This is a tour worth taking.
