The charming coastal town of Herculaneum offers a remarkable experience as a UNESCO World Heritage site, providing a glimpse into ancient Roman life before Mount Vesuvius erupted in 79 AD. This tour allows you to explore streets preserved in time, from lively markets to opulent villas and historical artefacts.
The tour begins with an insight into ancient daily life. You’ll visit the bakery and the Forum, where you can imagine Romans mingling in the bathing areas, capturing photos of dolphin mosaics and geometric tiles. You’ll also have the opportunity to see how the affluent lived in extravagant waterfront villas, adorned with frescoes, mosaics, and marble plaques.
Following this, you’ll explore the Boat Pavilion, where an authentic Roman vessel that once attempted to rescue Herculaneum’s residents is on display. Finally, head to the antiquarium, where you’ll be amazed by an incredible collection of sculptures, frescoes, jewelry, and everyday Roman artifacts.
- The venue is mostly accessible to people with reduced mobility or wheelchairs. CLICK HERE to check the alternative itinerary (in blue) that includes most of the archaeological site and 2 permanent exhibitions (Padiglione della Barca and an exhibition dedicated to jewellery and luxury items). Most of the domus are accessible
- We recommend you wear comfortable shoes and bring water with you
