Herculaneum Visit - Our tour guide was friendly and knowledgeable and this made for a very interesting visit. Standing on a viewing platform and seeing Herculaneum from that vantage point was absolutely breathtaking. Look down and you see the excavated ruins, then at eye level you take in the new town buildings, above that you see fields and in the distance there is Mount Vesuvius, the volcano that wreaked so much havoc in this area almost 2,000 years ago. A camera is a must and strong footwear is advised.
