Mosque and Madrasa of Sultan Hassan - Known as one of the largest mosques in Cairo, the Sultan Hassan Mosque, also referred to as
Madrasa El Sultan Hassan, was established by Sultan Hassan in 1356 A.D. This grand Mamluk-era mosque and madrassa is located near The Citadel in Cairo. Its construction began in 757 AH/1356 CE and was completed in three years “without even a single day of idleness.” At the time, the mosque was notable for its impressive size and innovative architectural features. Commissioned by a sultan with a brief and modest profile, al-Maqrizi highlighted several “wonders of construction” within the mosque. It was designed to include schools for all four Sunni schools of thought: Shafi’i, Maliki, Hanafi, and Hanbali. - Al-Azhar Mosque - Al-Azhar Mosque in Cairo, also known as the mosque of the most resplendent, is located in Islamic Cairo, Egypt. Commissioned by Al-Mu’izz li-Din Allah of the Fatimid Caliphate for the newly established capital city in 970, its name is believed to reference the Islamic prophet Muhammad’s daughter Fatimah, a revered figure in Islam, who was given the title az-Zahrā, meaning the shining or resplendent one. It was the first mosque established in Cairo, a city now known as “the City of a Thousand Minarets.”
- Hani Siblini Music - El Hussein Mosque in Cairo is a revered mosque believed to be the burial site of the head of the prophet Muhammad’s grandson.
