Explore the enchanting mountains of Patagonia by traveling from El Calafate to El Chaltén for an unforgettable trek to Laguna de los Tres, located at the base of the renowned Mount Fitz Roy. This challenging 20-kilometer hike along the Fitz Roy trail typically takes between 8 and 9 hours, depending on individual pace and fitness level, including short breaks to marvel at the breathtaking scenery throughout the journey.
The adventure begins with a hotel pick-up. As you embark on Route 40, you may spot local wildlife and, weather permitting, witness a stunning sunrise over the hills.
Upon arrival, a briefing about the trail is provided, along with trekking poles and a map, before setting off. The initial part of the trek leads through a forest to Laguna Capri, the first technical stop. The lagoon’s vibrant water and surrounding nature, along with the spectacular views of Fitz Roy, are truly unforgettable.
Continuing on, the trail crosses the Río Blanco Bridge to reach Camping Poincenot, a rustic campsite nestled in the native forest.
From Poincenot, the ascent to Laguna de los Tres begins. The final kilometer is the most challenging due to the elevation and terrain. However, the panoramic views, including Laguna Madre y Hija, are simply breathtaking.
Just when it seems the journey is complete, a final 300-meter climb awaits. Upon reaching the top, the magnificent natural beauty and vivid water colors make every effort worthwhile. The experience is beyond words.
