Visit the Great Pyramids of Giza, Sphinx, Sakkara, and Memphis
Pyramids of Giza - After breakfast, begin your tour of the Pyramids and Sphinx. The first stop is the Pyramids of Giza, one of the Seven Wonders of the World, built by pharaohs between 2590 BC and 2480 BC. Explore the Great Pyramid and enter the Queen’s Pyramid. Discover the secrets of the Sphinx, one of the largest monolithic statues in history. After taking in the views and capturing photos, proceed to Sakkara to see the step pyramid of King Zoser, the oldest pyramid in Egypt. Next, visit Memphis, the first capital of Egypt, where you will see the largest statue of King Ramses the Great. Return to Cairo for another night at your hotel.
Saqqara (Sakkara) Pyramids - The most notable landmark in Saqqara is the Step Pyramid, the tomb of the Third Dynasty ruler Djoser, built by Imhotep. It is considered the earliest major stone structure in Egypt. The pyramid’s form evolved from large mastabas (mud-brick tombs) of the First and Second Dynasties. The Step Pyramid stands 60 meters high and is made of locally quarried clay sandstone. Entry is no longer permitted due to safety concerns. The pyramid’s chambers and passages were used for the burial of the king’s close relatives and for storing grave goods.
Mit Rahina Museum - Memphis was the ancient capital of Aneb-Hetch, the first nome of Lower Egypt. Its ruins are near the town of Mit Rahina. After the tour, return to your hotel in Cairo. Overnight stay at a hotel in Cairo.
Explore Cairo: The Egyptian Museum, Old Cairo, and Bazaar
The Museum of Egyptian Antiquities - Commonly known as the Egyptian Museum, this museum in Cairo houses an extensive collection of ancient Egyptian artifacts. It has 120,000 items, with a representative amount on display and the rest in storerooms.
Khan Al-Khalili - Khan el-Khalili is a major market in the historic center of Islamic Cairo. The bazaar district is a main attraction for both tourists and locals.
Coptic Cairo - Coptic Cairo is part of Old Cairo and includes the Babylon Fortress, the Coptic Museum, the Hanging Church, the Greek Church of St. George, and many other Coptic churches and historical sites. Christian tradition holds that the Holy Family visited this area and stayed at the site of Saints Sergius and Bacchus Church (Abu Serga). Coptic Cairo was a stronghold for Christianity in Egypt until the Islamic era, though most current church buildings were constructed after the Muslim conquest in the 7th century. After the tour, return to your hotel in Cairo.
Cruising the Nile from Luxor to Aswan - Flight Included
Temple of Karnak - Early morning transfer for your flight to Luxor, Egypt’s most famous historical city. Upon arrival, meet your tour guide. The first tour is of the east bank of Luxor, starting with Karnak Temple, a vast complex dedicated primarily to Amun, dating back to 2000 BC. It is an impressive sight, second only to the Great Pyramids in popularity.
Luxor Temple - Luxor Temple is a large ancient Egyptian temple complex on the east bank of the Nile River, built around 1400 BCE. Known in Egyptian as ipet resyt, “the southern sanctuary.” After the tour, check in to your Nile cruise. Enjoy an evening disco party organized by the cruise staff. Overnight on the cruise.
Explore the Valley of the Kings: Meet the Pharaohs with Temples and Memnon
Valley of the Kings - Also known as the Valley of the Gates of the Kings, this valley is on the west bank of the Nile, opposite Thebes, within the Theban Necropolis. It consists of two valleys, East Valley and West Valley.
Temple of Hatshepsut - The Mortuary Temple of Hatshepsut, built for the Eighteenth Dynasty pharaoh Hatshepsut, is located beneath the cliffs at Deir el-Bahari on the west bank of the Nile near the Valley of the Kings.
Colossi of Memnon - These are two massive stone statues of Pharaoh Amenhotep III, who reigned during the Eighteenth Dynasty. They have stood in the Theban Necropolis for 3,400 years, west of the Nile from modern Luxor. Return to your Nile cruise. Enjoy the cruise facilities and swimming pool. Capture unique photos of the splendid nature and local villages along the way. Overnight on the cruise.
Discover the Temples of the Nile: Edfu, Kom Ombo, and the Crocodile Mummies Museum
Temple of Horus - After breakfast, visit the Temple of Horus by horse and carriage. This well-preserved temple in Edfu dates back to the Ptolemaic period.
Kom Ombo - Enjoy local Egyptian tea on the cruise sun deck while sailing. At sunset, visit the Temple of Kom Ombo, an unusual double temple in Aswan Governorate, Upper Egypt, constructed during the Ptolemaic dynasty (180–47 BC). The southern half of the temple was dedicated to the crocodile god Sobek, the god of fertility and creator of the world. Return to your Nile cruise. Overnight on the cruise.
Visit Aswan and Abu Simbel Temples
Abu Simbel Temple Complex - Discover the most important temple in Egypt, the Abu Simbel temples, two massive rock temples near the border with Sudan on the western bank of Lake Nasser, about 200 km southwest of Aswan.
Temple of Philae - Return to Aswan for lunch onboard. Then visit Philae, an island in the reservoir of the Aswan Low Dam, downstream of the Aswan Dam and Lake Nasser. Philae was originally near the First Cataract of the Nile and was the site of an Egyptian temple complex.
