A One Day Tour, A Lifetime of Memories - I find it hard to overstate how delighted we were with this tour and with our tour guide, Kyle. The positive experience began even before we boarded the pristine 12 seat coach. Our cruise ship arrived in South Queensferry (Edinburgh) but is unable to dock there so we were tendered into port. The process was delayed due to a medical emergency, so I sent a quick email to advise that we would not be at the meet-up point by the scheduled 9:30 departure time. I received a quick reply telling my wife and I not to worry, that the coach would not leave without us. Sure enough, when we got out of the tender boat, we were met by a Discover Scotland Tours representative who welcomed us and then introduced us to our tour guide, Kyle. He immediately struck me as an amiable young man who not only represented his company in a positive way, but also demonstrated a genuine Scot’s hospitality. Since we had an 90 minute walking tour booked at the Old Course at St. Andrews starting at noon, I asked him what the likelihood was of arriving on time. He smiled and said, “Not very likely,” but said he’d do everything he could to get us there as close to 12:00 as possible. Once on our way into the historic Kingdom of Fife, his love of his country, its history and geography were immediately apparent. He spoke nearly non-stop, but that’s not a negative. Everything he said was interesting, relevant and revealing. Our first stop along the coastal road was a small fishing village where we could stretch our legs, use the facilities and admire the beauty of the location. We were soon on our way toward St. Andrews; the reason we booked this tour because of my near life-long obsession with a game that always just seems to elude my skills. The prospect of walking where the legends have played was one of the highlights of our cruise. Somehow, Kyle managed to get us to the pro shop by 12:10 and while the tour had just departed, we were able to catch up with it at its first stop on the course and missed nothing. I won’t bore non-golfers with a play-by-play of that tour, just suffice to say it was everything I hoped it would be. When dropping us off, Kyle let us know that he would pick us up at the Whyte-Melville Memorial Fountain on Market Street at 2:30. We got there a few minutes early and our coach soon appeared. On the way back to South Queensferry, we made a stop at the picturesque village of Falkland where we toured Falkland Palace, and as fans of Outlander, enjoyed seeing some of the locations where the first season of the series was shot. For the duration of the ride back into port, Kyle continued with his interesting and insightful commentary. I’ve been on tours where the guides barely speak. This was not an issue with Kyle and we were delighted by his obvious pride in the information he shared. I believe we first heard about Discover Scotland Tours when it was recommended by a fellow traveller who discovered it on a previous visit. We immediately checked out the company website and were pleasantly surprised to find so many tours from South Queensferry and Edinburgh, along with Greenock and Glasgow. We hope to return to Scotland in the next few years, and we won’t have to wonder which tour company we’ll use for excursions. We’ve done a good deal of travelling and I’m not exaggerating when I say this all too briefly adventure in Fife was as good as it gets. Brilliant!

Book it Now! - We had the best time with our tour guide, Jamie! He was so nice and so knowledgeable. He shared an abundance of information and gave us suggestions on what to see and where to go in each place. It was a tour and a history lesson combined. I wish I could give him 10 stars!
