• Edinburgh Castle Esplanade - The first stop will be the Castle Esplanade, offering breathtaking views of the city and the site of the Edinburgh Military Tattoo. The history of one of Edinburgh’s oldest buildings will be discussed, along with captivating tales of kings, queens, battles, and sieges, revealing the castle’s secrets.

• Victoria Street - From the Castle Esplanade, the journey continues downhill to Victoria Street, renowned as Edinburgh’s most picturesque and vibrant street.

• Grassmarket - At the end of Victoria Street, the tour enters the Grassmarket, a spacious plaza known for its pubs and intriguing history.

• Greyfriars Bobby - From the Grassmarket, the walk proceeds up Candlemarker Row, leading to Edinburgh’s most famous and loyal dog, Bobby! The statue of the dog, located just outside the graveyard, will also be seen.

• Greyfriars Kirkyard - Behind Bobby, the entrance to Greyfriars Kirkyard is found. This historic graveyard offers insights into the Mortsafes and the connection between the Scottish Covenanters and the George Mackenzie Mausoleum.

• National Museum of Scotland - The tour will enter the National Museum of Scotland, exploring the Grand Gallery and some highlights of the Scottish and international collections. There will be time for coffee and relaxation.

• St Giles’ Cathedral - After visiting the National Museum of Scotland, the route leads to the Royal Mile via Cowgate. The origin of the name Royal Mile and its historical significance will be explained. The first stop will be St. Giles Cathedral, where the architecture of Scotland’s most important church and the history of the Presbyterian religion will be explored. A walk to West Parliament Square will cover the Act of Union.

• Mercat Cross - Behind St. Giles Cathedral, the Mercat Cross is located, once a site for public announcements and punishments. The reason for the unicorn’s presence at the top of this structure will be explained.

• Royal Mile - Walking down the Royal Mile, the tour will explore some of the ‘closes’ and their historical uses, recalling stories of past residents.

• John Knox House Museum - On the Royal Mile, a stop will be made outside John Knox House, and the location of a former city gate will be noted.

• Canongate Kirk - At the Canongate Tolbooth, the significance of the golden stag’s head with a cross between its antlers in this part of the city will be explained.

• The Scottish Parliament - A short distance from Canongate, the Scottish Parliament will be seen. This modern building is quite controversial, and its unique architecture will be discussed.

• Palace of Holyroodhouse - The final stop will be the Palace of Holyroodhouse. The Palace will be viewed from the main gate, with a discussion on its history and architecture.
