Paranormal ambience - Our host was very knowledgeable in the history of the places we visited. He told us about fascinating paranormal occurrences that took place there. The indoor tour area was little bigger than I expected and that means more to explore plus the restricted area of the graveyard was included in this tour. I enjoyed it, thanks.

Foggy night - As a self-proclaimed skeptic of the supernatural, I have to admit that our tour guide, Beth, did a phenomenal job of making me question myself a few times and even raising my heartbeat on a couple of occasions. If you enjoy spooky experiences and learning about the city's history, I highly recommend this tour. The weather couldn’t have been more fitting—it felt like a paid actor, with the fog turning the cemetery into a scene straight out of a horror movie.

An evening of unease and excitement - The City of the Dead tours are the best way to explore Edinburgh’s graveyards and vaults. Our guide, Xander, was fantastic—knowledgeable, engaging, and genuinely passionate. He balanced clear explanations with captivating storytelling, making Edinburgh’s history come alive without over-the-top theatrics. We visited on St. Patrick’s Day, and despite the crowds, Xander ensured a smooth experience. The vaults were chilling, especially with minimal torchlight, adding to the eerie atmosphere. As a skeptic, I approached the stories with curiosity rather than belief, but they were undeniably compelling. While nothing extraordinary happened during our vault visit, my partner did feel a strange sensation—a slight caress on her ankles—in a vault where the spirit of a little boy is said to linger, searching for maternal affection. 😱 The highlight of the tour was undoubtedly the visit to the Greyfriar’s Graveyard. Not only did we learn about the infamous Mackenzie Poltergeist’s Mausoleum, but we also gained exclusive access to a locked prison area, a privilege unique to the City of the Dead tours and where the Poltergeist is most active. Xander enthusiastically invited the group to stand inside one of the crypts—a place even he wouldn’t even venture. It was an eerie and uncomfortable experience, made even more intense by the group’s willingness to keep their phone torches off, plunging us into complete darkness. It’s an experience I won’t soon forget! I highly recommend this tour for an authentic, spine-tingling experience. Xander’s passion and expertise make it truly special!

Informative about Edinburghs history although also a bit ‘tongue in cheek’ about the ghosts, friendly, engaging and fun - Ben was our guide, he made it fun and interactive when engaging with everyone at the start and then including each person - using their name, during the tour

An interesting view of a different side to Edinburgh - The rest of our group no showed so we had our own private tour. Alistair was a great guide, with the right mix of history and spookiness. I’m a sceptic but I definitely felt SOMETHING both in the vaults and crypt.

Brilliant storytelling and spooky history - We absolutely loved the Double Dead Tour in Edinburgh! Our guide, Alistair (I hope I’ve got the spelling right), was absolutely brilliant. His storytelling was captivating, blending the history of the city with eerie tales in such an engaging way. Exploring the vaults first and then the cemetery was a fantastic way to experience the darker side of Edinburgh. Alistair’s knowledge and enthusiasm truly brought the stories to life, making the tour both thrilling and educational. If you’re visiting Edinburgh and looking for a unique way to learn about the city’s past, I can’t recommend this tour enough. A must-do experience!

Double-Dead with Nat is fun and spooky! - Loved this tour of the underground vaults and Greyfriars Kirkyard at night! Very creepy history and stories and our host Nat was hands down the best at making it feel more like a personal tour. You get the real experience of what it would’ve been like living (or more like surviving) underneath the city of Edinburgh. The kirkyard is amazing during the day and even more alluring at night. Lots of the local lore and history of the many different conflicts and groups that walked these same streets.

Tour of the vaults ruined cause of obnoxious night club music which was so loud the vaults were shaking - Couldn't hear the second half of the tour because of the vaults neighbour blaring loud music. No fault of the guide Beth but when you go to a spooky tour you don't expect the atmosphere to be ruined by such a thing. We were apologised to but as half the tour was ruined, a part refund should be issued. An additional nit pick is where someone is picked to stay at the back of the tour at all times. It makes you stuck behind the group when you stop at one of the attractions. It's a bit annoying and it should be the tour guides responsibility to guide everyone, not someone who is paying to be there.
