Edinburgh to Inverness

Forth Bridge - As the journey begins from Edinburgh heading north, travelers will be greeted by the sight of Scotland’s engineering masterpiece, the Forth Bridge, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This 19th-century marvel was once the world’s longest cantilever bridge. It stands alongside the 20th-century Forth Road Bridge and the 21st-century Queensferry Crossing, which opened in 2017. These three remarkable bridges, each from a different century, span the Firth of Forth, linking the capital city with the Kingdom of Fife.

Pitlochry - Take a break in the historic village of Pitlochry, nestled in the heart of Scotland. Revel in the stunning scenery, fresh air, and the rich clan history of the area.

Cairngorms National Park - Continue north through the western side of the dramatic Cairngorm National Park, the UK’s largest national park. It is cherished for its serene lochs, towering Munros, and significant historical events.

Highland Folk Museum - Experience Highland life in the 18th century at the ‘Highland Folk Museum’ in Newtonmore (entry by donation). Discover the simple homes, clothing, and daily lives of people from 300 years ago. The museum also features an on-site café for lunch during the 90-minute visit. Used as a filming location for ‘Outlander,’ this site offers a unique glimpse into the lives and challenges of the Highland people. Admission is free, but donations are appreciated. The museum is open seasonally and is replaced by Ruthven Barracks during winter.

Clava Cairns - After visiting Culloden, arrive at Clava Cairns, where Diana Gabaldon found inspiration for ‘Craig Na Dun’ in the Outlander series. These intriguing Bronze-Age standing stones and burial chambers are believed to be over 4,000 years old. Walk among the stones and learn about the creators of this fascinating site.

Culloden Battlefield - The guide will lead you to the fields of Culloden Moor, where the infamous 1746 battle occurred, the last battle fought on British soil. This marked the end of Bonnie Prince Charlie’s aspirations to become King. Walking on this somber site, where many Highlanders perished, is a poignant experience for many Scots, as it symbolizes the end of “old Scotland.” The battle had a lasting impact on Scotland, Britain, and Europe.

Inverness Cathedral - Arrive in Inverness around 7 PM at the city center drop-off - Inverness Cathedral on Ardross Street, IV3 5NN. The evening is free to explore the city or dine with fellow travelers at a local restaurant or traditional Highland pub. Inverness offers a wide range of dining options, including the national dish of Haggis, Neeps & Tatties, accompanied by a dram of Scotch Whisky or a Local Organic Beer (try the Black Isle Brewery Bar!). During peak season, it’s advisable to book a table in advance for larger groups. After dinner, visit the world-famous Hootenanny bar, featuring traditional Scottish musicians every night.

Roundtrip to Isle of Skye

Inverness to Edinburgh

Loch Ness - The guide will take you to the northern shores of Loch Ness, where you can opt for a Boat Cruise (tickets not included) to explore the area’s features, history, and lore.

Commando Monument - Along the way, stop at the Commando Memorial. In 1942, this location became the training ground for Britain’s Special Forces. Harsh, unforgiving, and breathtakingly beautiful, a statue of the heroes overlooks the Nevis range. Bring a camera – this is one of the most favored photo-stops in Scotland. Weather permitting, you might also catch a glimpse of Ben Nevis, the tallest mountain in the UK.
