Glencoe National Nature Reserve - Glen Coe is arguably the most renowned of all Scotland’s glens. This narrow valley, the site of the infamous 1692 massacre of the MacDonalds, has served as a backdrop for numerous films, including Skyfall. A nearby stop for lunch (at own expense) is planned.
Glenfinnan Viaduct - Visit the Glenfinnan Viaduct (available Apr-Oct) which is famously featured in several Harry Potter films as the Hogwarts Express train crosses the bridge.
Ben Nevis - Pause for a photo of Britain’s tallest mountain, Ben Nevis.
Fort Augustus - Enjoy the opportunity for photos and souvenir shopping in the delightful village of Fort Augustus.
Loch Ness - Travel along the entire length of Loch Ness, keeping an eye out for a possible sighting of the Loch Ness Monster!
Urquhart Castle - Stop at Urquhart Castle for a photo opportunity and to stretch your legs before the final stretch to Inverness.
Inverness - Spend the night in Inverness, the northernmost city in the UK and the charming capital of the Highlands. There are plenty of pubs, cafés, and restaurants for evening entertainment.
Inverness to Edinburgh
Culloden Battlefield - After being picked up from your accommodation, it’s a short drive to Culloden Moor, where the Jacobites were ultimately defeated by government forces in 1746, marking the last battle on British soil.
Take time to walk the battlefield and learn more about this tragic event that claimed the lives of 700 Highland clansmen in just three minutes.
Clava Cairns - Visit one of Scotland’s most evocative and sacred prehistoric sites, the 4000-year-old stone circles and burial mounds at Clava Cairns.
Cairngorms National Park - As the journey continues south through the Cairngorms National Park, learn about the flora and fauna of this magnificent wilderness, officially protected in 2003 and the largest national park in the British Isles. A stop for lunch at one of the charming villages within the park is included.
Ruthven Barracks - While driving through the Cairngorms National Park, spot Ruthven Barracks, constructed in 1719 following the 1715 Jacobite uprising.
Pitlochry - The Highland town of Pitlochry boasts an elegant main street filled with shops and restaurants.
The Hermitage Woodland Walk - The final stop is a gentle riverside walk through Big Tree Country at Dunkeld, a beautiful way to conclude the tour in any season.
Forth Road Bridge - Just before returning to Edinburgh (tour return time is 7pm), the journey crosses the River Forth. A quick photo stop in South Queensferry offers the chance to capture the iconic Forth Rail Bridge, built in 1890.
