Sailing, Snorkeling, and Tacos: A Perfect Day on St. John Island
When the allure of a scenic cruise, snorkeling, and a taco boat lunch called, I couldn’t resist. Join me as I recount my unforgettable day exploring St. John Island, where the ocean’s wonders and island charm left me in awe.
Setting Sail on a Caribbean Adventure
The sun was just beginning to rise over the East End, casting a golden glow across the tranquil waters. I found myself aboard a sleek vessel, ready to embark on the St. John Island Exploration. The promise of a day filled with snorkeling, scenic cruising, and a taco boat lunch was too tempting to resist. As a former professional surfer, the ocean is my playground, and this adventure was calling my name.
Our captain, Tyler, a former Coast Guard, exuded confidence and expertise, making everyone feel at ease. His first mate, Heather, was a fountain of knowledge about the area, and her attentiveness was unparalleled. From ensuring our drinks were always topped up to cooling our sun-warmed feet with refreshing splashes of water, Heather’s thoughtful gestures added a touch of magic to the journey.
As we cruised along the North Shore, the views of Hawksnest Beach, Trunk Bay, and Cinnamon Bay were nothing short of breathtaking. The captain skillfully navigated us to a calm and clear snorkeling spot, where the underwater world awaited our exploration.
Underwater Wonders and Floating Feasts
Diving into the crystal-clear waters, I was immediately surrounded by a vibrant tapestry of marine life. Christmas Cove was a snorkeler’s paradise, teeming with turtles, stingrays, and a mesmerizing array of fish darting around a sunken shipwreck. It was a scene straight out of a dream, and I couldn’t help but feel a deep sense of gratitude for moments like these.
After our underwater escapades, it was time to indulge in a unique dining experience at Lime Out, the floating taco and craft cocktail bar. Perched on floats, we savored some of the best tacos I’ve ever tasted, while little fish playfully nibbled at the crumbs we dropped. The staff at Lime Out were as delightful as the food, adding to the overall charm of this one-of-a-kind lunch spot.
With our appetites satisfied, we continued our journey to Pizza Pi, where the novelty of enjoying pizza on a boat was a delightful surprise. The pizza was delicious, and there was plenty to go around, ensuring no one left hungry.
A Relaxing Retreat and Reflections
Our final stop was Lovango Resort + Beach Club, a place steeped in history and offering a chance to unwind. While some chose to explore the resort, I opted to relax and reflect on the day’s adventures. The bartenders were attentive, crafting refreshing drinks that perfectly complemented the laid-back atmosphere.
In hindsight, a beach or swim stop might have been more my style, but the resort offered a different kind of charm. It was a chance to capture stunning photos and enjoy a leisurely beverage before heading back to the boat.
As we sailed back to shore, the sun began to dip below the horizon, painting the sky in hues of orange and pink. It was the perfect end to a day filled with exploration, laughter, and unforgettable experiences. The St. John Island Exploration had delivered on its promise, leaving me with memories to cherish and a renewed appreciation for the beauty of island life.
