My Son Sanctuary - Situated 40 kilometers west of Hoi An, My Son Sanctuary is Vietnam’s most important archaeological site from the ancient Champa Kingdom. From the 4th to the 13th centuries, this region was home to a distinctive culture heavily influenced by Indian Hinduism. The sanctuary boasts an impressive collection of tower-temples that served as the religious and political center of the Champa Kingdom for much of its history.
Nestled in a lush valley and encircled by majestic mountain ranges, My Son was recognized as a UNESCO Cultural Heritage site in 1999. Initially constructed from wood, many of these structures were destroyed by fire in the 6th century. They were subsequently rebuilt in the 7th century by Sambhuvarman, who used locally produced bricks for the restoration. - My Son Sanctuary - By the 13th century, more than 70 temples had been constructed, establishing My Son as a significant hub of Hinduism in the Champa Kingdom. Today, the sanctuary remains a remarkable architectural ensemble, highlighting a fusion of art, spirituality, and political importance.
