Hall of Prayer for Good Harvest - Situated in the center of Beijing, this site has been the venue for 654 heavenly worship ceremonies conducted by 22 emperors from the Ming and Qing dynasties. In contemporary times, it has hosted international events like the flame-lighting ceremonies for both the Olympic and Paralympic Games, and has welcomed notable personalities such as Kissinger and Stephen Hawking. From its beginnings as an imperial altar for solemn rites to its current status as a “global reception hall,” this architectural wonder connects China’s historical and modern eras.

Imperial Vault Of Heaven - Echo Wall
The Echo Wall surrounds the Imperial Vault of Heaven, with a circumference of 193 meters (633 feet). The wall’s flat and smooth surface allows sound waves to travel effortlessly. If two people stand by the wall behind the East Annex Hall and the West Annex Hall respectively and one whispers, the other will hear the words clearly. This phenomenon leverages the principles of sound waves, creating a “mysterious atmosphere.”
Three Echo Stone
The Three Echo Stones are three stones positioned from north to south on the stone road outside the gate of the Imperial Vault of Heaven. Speaking towards the vault while standing on the first stone results in one echo; standing on the second and third stones results in two and three echoes, respectively.
- Temple of Heaven - The Heaven Heart Stone, also known as the Sun Stone, is one of the most distinctive design elements in the Temple of Heaven. It is a round stone at the center of the altar, slightly raised. Standing on it and shouting or knocking produces clearly echoed sound waves. In ancient times, during the Worshipping Heaven Ceremony, the ritual officer would stand on the stone to deliver the oration, with the resonant sound seemingly reaching the heavens.
