Chernobyl - Checking into one of the town’s hotels.
Yes, there are now three hotels in the town.
The perception of Chernobyl as a ghost town is somewhat misleading. Several thousand people work here in shifts, and there are administrative offices, a prosecutor’s office, police, post office, shops, and a cafeteria.
Exploring the city: - Visits to the museum of robots and equipment used in the aftermath of the accident.
- The central square of Chernobyl and the memorial complex “Star Wormwood”.
- Visiting the alley of memory for villages abandoned after the Chernobyl accident.
-
Kopachi - Checkpoint “Leviev” and the village of Kopachy: (weather permitting, as wet conditions pose a risk of bringing radioactive particles into the bus):
Visiting the kindergarten, one of the remaining buildings in the village.
Kopachy is located 4 km from the Chernobyl NPP and was heavily contaminated with radiation after the accident. It was decided to liquidate Kopachy and bury it underground. Now, only small mounds remain, marking the graves of houses. - Pripyat - Main attractions:
- Visiting the central square of the city.
- Viewing the City Executive Committee building.
- Seeing the Polissya hotel.
- Observing the amusement park with the Ferris wheel and other rides, which children will never enjoy.
- MSC-126 (medical-sanitary unit) at 2, Ogneva Street, where the first explosion victims were taken on April 26, 1986.
- Viewing the Azure pool. (Entering buildings is officially prohibited!)
- Seeing the high school.
- Visiting other sites.
-
Pripyat - The third phase of the Chernobyl NPP, unfinished units 5 and 6:
The explosion of the fourth power unit halted the construction of the third phase of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. Unit 5 was 80% complete, while only a foundation pit was dug for Unit 6.
Unfinished Cooling Towers (inside and outside):
The massive radiators intended to cool reactors 5 and 6. Entering the cooling towers reveals their immense volume, a testament to human engineering. The famous graffiti by Italian artist Guido van Helten can be seen here. -
Pripyat - The abandoned experimental radiobiology base:
Located by the cooler pond, near the cooling towers. Research on the effects of ionizing radiation on biological subjects was conducted here. After the accident, all research ceased, leaving equipment and drugs in the laboratory. The base is ready to share its findings. -
Pripyat - Artificial Pond NPP Cooler:
A unique hydraulic engineering structure. The reservoir, with depths exceeding 10 meters in some areas, can “awaken” memories of the Chernobyl tragedy. Discover the dangers lurking in the Pond Cooler. -
Chernobyl - The villages of Kupovatoe, Red, Opachichi (interaction with self-settlers) (optional):
Imagine the difficulty of leaving your home, the place of your birth and life. Some people couldn’t leave. Despite the USSR government’s decree for compulsory resettlement and the high radiation contamination, some stayed or returned. These self-settlers are willing to share their stories of destiny, suffering, and grief. -
Chernobyl - Interview with staff from the Institute of Nuclear Safety of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine in Chernobyl:
Hear the latest and most accurate facts about the disaster. Learn about the current state of the Zone. -
Chernobyl - Chernobyl-2 - military town administrative building:
Chernobyl-2 had a population of about 1,000, with only one street - Kurchatov. Explore the city, visit the soldiers’ barracks, and the administrative building where antenna signals crucial to state security were processed.
The excursion program may change based on daylight hours, weather conditions, and Chernobyl administration directives. - Reactor No 4 - Chernobyl nuclear power plant named after Lenin, ChNPP:
- Touring the road along the cooling pond.
- Viewing the observation site of the shelter object “Arch”.
- Visiting the park and memorial at the NPP administrative building.
- Feeding fish (weather permitting, from April to September).
- Inactivated Red Forest at the site of the western radioactive trail.
-
Duga Radar Russian Woodpecker - Chernobyl-2: a secret USSR object - ZGRLS “Duga”.
The over-the-horizon radar was designed for early detection of intercontinental ballistic missile launches. Familiarization with the object.
