Sơn Mài Lâm Phát - Handicapped & Handicraft - This handicraft factory specializes in creating high-quality products using resin from Vietnamese lacquer trees, particularly those in the north, which played a vital role in the swift growth of this art form. Many temples and pagodas still display lacquer statues, panels, boxes, and trays. Over the centuries, lacquerware expanded to include larger items like wooden chairs and tables, adorned with engraved, painted, and inlaid mother-of-pearl designs. By the 18th century, significant centers for lacquerware production emerged in both the north and south. To promote Vietnamese handicrafts in new international markets, the French introduced formal lacquerware training programs at the School of Indigenous Arts near Saigon in 1901 and in Hanoi in 1930. Since then, lacquerware has evolved into a cornerstone of the Vietnamese handicraft industry, both domestically and internationally. Popular contemporary items include vases, jewel cases, desk sets, trays, and vertical blinds.

Bến Đình - Escape the hustle and bustle of Ho Chi Minh City to explore a relic from one of the most significant local historical events in recent history. The journey takes two hours west towards the Cambodian border. On the way to the Cu Chi tunnels, observe the local lifestyle, both past and present. Gain insights into their lives, culture, and customs, and view the recent past through the eyes of the locals. The tunnels’ location was strategically crucial, situated at the end of the infamous Ho Chi Minh Trail and within striking distance of southern Vietnam’s capital. Construction began in 1948 when the Viet Minh needed a refuge from French air attacks, and by 1965, the tunnel complex was estimated to span 200 km. It included hospitals, schools, meeting rooms, kitchens, and sleeping quarters. Life was challenging for the inhabitants, and to guard against intruders, booby traps were strategically placed throughout the complex.
