Highlights
  • Lookout Bench - Your guide, Leith Monaghan, will meet guests at the Sheep River Library in Diamond Valley. After signing waivers and discussing details for the day, guests and guide will convoy out to the Sheep River Valley, a 20 minute drive west of town.

You will be hiking the Foran Grade loop, a 6.4 km Round Trip (+240 m of elevation). This trail travels along a scenic ridge that provides amazing views of the river valley, rocky outcrops and front range peaks. Guests will be regaled with the history and stories of the Remittance Men and Second Sons that settled in the foothills. Afternoon tea with snacks will provide a well deserved break along the way.

After a fantastic day outdoors, guests can return to Diamond Valley. They are eligible for a “local discount” on food and drinks at the Eau Claire Distillery. A fabulous way to end a day outdoors.

On this interpretive hike through the stunning Sheep River Valley, your professionally certified ACMG guide will share stories of these young men’s adventures and the lasting mark they left in on the Foothills historical landscape. Afternoon tea along with snacks worthy of a Second Son will be served along the way.

Hikers will meet their Path Less Taken Guide, Leith Monaghan, at the Sheep River Library Parking Lot. The itinerary and hiking route will be reviewed and waivers signed. The group will then drive 20-30 minutes west to the trailhead of choice.
