Full Day in Elqui Valley - Our tour started at 9am. We were picked up by our guides (one Spanish speaking and one English speaking) picked us up at our AirBnB in Coquimbo. We made the first stop at the Elqui River. It was a serene place on the way into the valley. From there we stopped at a market to try papaya products. Next we stopped at the Puclaro Dam, a nice photo opportunity. From there we went to lunch at a solar oven restaurant. The food was delicious and quite good (included drink and dessert). From there we stopped at a nearby town to see the Gabriela Mistral museum. It included several photos, artifacts and personal items. It was education and entertaining. From there we went to a winey, Cavas del Valle. It was a quick tour and included tastings and an opportunity to purchase wine. Next we went to visit a pisqueria, also included tastings and opportunity to purchase pisco. Next we went to Vicuna to see different landmarks there and eat dinner (not included). After we went to the Mamalluca Observatory. Fortunately we were in the English speaking group as the Spanish speaking group had 100+ people and ours only about 10. We used a telescope to look at the moon and planets before stargazing and learning about different constellations. It was an enchanting experience. We arrived back at the AirBnB around 12:30AM. Our guides were knowledgeable, easy-going, friendly and accommodating to our preferences. It was a very full day, but a great way to experience all that the valley has to offer.
